Anna Mrie Elise Wilmasmann married Johann Heinrich Baumer. Various documents spell her name Wilmsmann and others Wilsmann. Church records at St. Peters Evangelical show Wilsmann. Anybody researching this name? Linda
Linda: Maybe I'm reading this wrong but you've posted quite a bit of information at Ancestry.com covering both sides of the family. What more, specifically, are you looking for? Hi Pat: Just thought you might find this interesting. In the book "German Element in St. Louis," there is a note about the northeast corner of 4th & Pine St. in the early 1860s. The address you gave for William Jones, one of your g-grands husbands was 205 North 4th St which would be this corner (or next door to) at 4th & Pine. "At (this corner) there stood until about 1864 a long, narrow low building, in which Lippincott, who later became the manufacturer of soda water, had a candy and sweetmeats shop together with a restaurant that specialized in oysters. This restaurant was open till after midnight. At the end of performances in the adjoining Ben de Bar's Theater, the Lippincott place was crowded with people." This area sported several bars & hotels, with the most famous and luxurious - Planter's House - just one block south on 4th St. Good hunting Gary Stoltman Mercerville, NJ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Georgia Clark" <georgia@corpsie.com> To: <MO-STLOUIS-METRO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 01, 2003 6:46 PM Subject: Re: [StL-Metro] Soulard > Dear Pat, > > Following website has the city divisions along with a brief history of all or > most of them. Dear Pat, Following website has the city divisions along with a brief history of all or most of them. Anne Don't know if I am reading your post correctly, but on the chance, you posted the following: //////////////////////////// In a sense I have found her - listed in the 1st enumeration as M. F. Johnson but there is no available image. I found several children listed; one of which Gertrude married a George Eberle in 1894. The 1870 census from Cincinnati, OH lists a Henrietta instead of Gertrude but the right age for Gertrude. Gertrude was my husband's grandmother." I have a GEORGE EBERLE son of JACOB EBERLE, born Bavaria about 1834 and died in Illinois Sep. 1864 and ANNA M. STAUDER, born Jan 1838 in St. Clair County, Illinois. Jacob and Anna were married 27 Aug 1855 in Madison County, Illinois. They had five children one of which was the above GEORGE EBERLE. As luck would have it George is the only one of the five children where all I have is his name and absolutely nothing else. I would assume that he was born some time between 1855 and 1865 since his siblings were born in 1858, 1860, 1861, and 1863. After Jacob Eberle's death Anna married a George Erlinger in 1865 in St. Clair County, Illinois. //////////////////////////// There are at least two George Eberle marriages in Illinois: EBERLE, GEORGE married MCLEAN, MARY in Cook County Illinois, 28 Sep 1881, License #00055802 EBERLE, GEORGE H, married OLSON, CAROLINE in Cook County, Illinois, 22 Mar 1890, License # 00150536 /////////////////////////////// Bill Surnames of Interest: BUCHHOLZ anywhere -BECKMANN-CASSIDY-DeL0NJAY-DREES-MOSBACHER-NENTWIG-NEUTZLER-PONCOT-RENSIN G-STAUDER-STIEFFERMANN ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! WILLIAM A. JONES - born about 1839 Canada, He was in St. Louis by 1859 or before. Abt 1860, he worked on a ship/boat etc. He resided at 205 North 4th St in St. Louis, Mo. He rented rooms and at some time ran a bar. According to some of divorce papers, he may have been one of my ancestrial grandmother's husbands. It seems like he may have been of questionable character. I have traced him in the City directory until 1890/1891. I have not found further record or death for him. Since William Jones is such a 'common' name, it is hard to trace. I have no indication that he had a religious preference. My guess is that he did not. Otto Roth came to St Louis via New York in 1880 or 1881. He was born October 1855 in Weibersbrunn, Aschaffenburg, Germany. Before coming to the US he served (from all indications unwillingly) in the Army. His parents were possibly Anton and Marianna Roth. In January 1882 he married Anna Sailer daughter of Christian and Anna Barbara Nolte Roth. Ruth Stubbs
I have been trying for sometime to find Mary Florence Heister Johnen in the 1880 census. She was the widow of Julius Johnen. They both came to St Louis around 1875. He was listed in the 1877 city director as a painter, but he died in March of that year and is buried in St. Marcus . Jim, they are the ones who lived at 1511 Ridgley, but Mary promptly moved. In fact, I think she moved every year. I have different addresses for her for every year except she wasn't listed in the 1880 directory. She was listed as a milliner in 1881 at 1226 N. 13th.. In a sense I have found her - listed in the 1st enumeration as M. F. Johnson but there is no available image. I found several children listed; one of which Gertrude married a George Eberle in 1894. The 1870 census from Cincinnati, OH lists a Henrietta instead of Gertrude but the right age for Gertrude. Gertrude was my husband's grandmother. I have been trying to find the Johnen family in the 2nd 1880 enumeration but so far without luck. Can anyone help me figure out what ed. the above address would be? The address in 1879 was 1326 N. 7th so she stayed in the general area once she moved north from Ridgley. Thank you for any thoughts on how to narrow down my census search! Hi, This is a reminder about our online portrait memorial for anyone with a Missouri ancestor that fought in the Civil War. It cost nothing to add your ancestor. Just need a scanned portrait, name, and unit. That's the bare minimum and anything more is genealogical gravy. Just send them to me at: webmaster@missouricivilwarmuseum.org Sincerely, Scott K. Williams, Webmaster The Missouri Civil War Museum http://www.missouricivilwarmuseum.org/
My names are as follows: Kraeger, John (Germany to St. Louis), Henry and Leonard (St. Louis) Kessler, Babette (Married to John Kraeger)(St. Louis) Jeanne Carr
