    1. [StL-Metro] My Busy Cousin
    2. Bill and Lisa Kemp
    3. My cousin, Nehemiah Nixon has been so busy, that his mailbox is full and I'm getting my forwarded emails to him returned. Just thought you'd all like to know how busy my cousin NEHEMIAH NIXON is, over there at the BIG COURTHOUSE in JEFFERSON CITY. So, in case YOU are also trying to write to my cousin, NEHEMIAH "Jay" NIXON, you might get your email back. 1. [StL-Metro] Getting Manifest Copy
    2. Hey all, I have an extract from a Ancestry CD for Italians to America (arrivals in early 1890, 1891 before Ellis Island). It has my gr grandmother's name, ship name, date of arrival, destination New York, along with a manifest number. I also have the entry for my other gr grandmother with her 3 oldests sons, and date of entry to New York, with final destination set for St. Louis. But I do not have the ship name, as it was not listed, but it did have the manifest number. If I write to the National Archives, could they possibly get me a real copy of the ship manifests? Is the name of the ship necessary, or is the manifest number with date of arrival OK. If so, what is the cost? Has anyone done this before? If so, how long does it take? Is this something that I could get by visiting the National Archives center in Chicago, or is it best to contact the "big house" in Wash DC? As you can see, I have not done this before, just dealt with Ellis Island for other relatives. Sharon Bognar Reif

I was able to get copies of 1920 through 1946 divorces of my Brashers and McQuillens. Service is not lightening quick. I ordered a divorce for Bow Wow McQ three years ago and am still waiting, my grand Dad, Henry James, and Mabel Vie in 1920 only took three weeks.----Jim

    3. Dear Sharon, There is information about where to inquire about divorce records (as well as other records) on Dave Lossos' website for St. Louis Genealogy: http://genealogyinstlouis.accessgenealogy.com/dluseful.htm The St. Louis Public Library has indices for marriages in ST. Louis but it seems that not all marriages that took place in a Catholic Church show up on the index. At least that has been my experience recently. http://www.slpl.lib.mo.us/libsrc/geneinfo.htm Click on item # 5 to see what is available and # 13 to email the library ( Reference Desk). 1. Re: [StL-Metro] Finding possible divorce records
    2. Divorce records are public domain - u can get a copy - possibly they were not married in a church - so they considered they weren't really married. But since the priest said what he did to your grandmother, it rather sounds like they were - and of course they would not have recognized the divorce then. Or maybe he married this woman in another church - not Catholic - which would make it an "unholy" marriage. Check the city records for a marriage date too - then track the priest or minister back to a church thru Directory records. If you do not find a divorce or annulment in St. Louis records, I would find out where this woman was from, if you can. Maybe she got one there. And wouldn't it be interesting to talk to her family and get their side of the story??

    3. Hi Laura: I just saw your 24 Apr 2002 RootsWeb note on Germans in StL archive. Surprised I missed it. Just a flyer - I've been looking for the remnants of the Johann Hermann Ritter clan. He went by Hermann John. The family lived at 2939 Manchester and later at 3007 Manchester through 1900 then disppeared. He was a butcher in St. Louis and once had two shops, one at 3221Olive. He was born 1834 in Hannover. One of his daughters was my grandmother (Minnie). Sibs were John (dec 1877), (K) or Catherine, William H., Edward, Lillie, Ida, Carrie (?) and Adele who were all born in 1861-1882 frame. I have not been able to find any of the brothers nor sisters - nor their children.

    2. Gary Stoltman
    3. List: Looking for a William Fisher (americanized "Fischer"). He was a grocer at 9th & Carr in the early 1850s. and was from Hannover. Guess of birth is 1810s This is a recent find for me. My g-grand worked in his store when he arrived in StL in 1854. Never knew what his StL connection was. Found a longshot - William Fischer connected to the old Chouteau Mansion at 7th & Market as a restraunteur in the early 1860s. This isn't far from 9th & Carr but everything was fairly close then. Ironically, I know about the Fischer family in Hannover but not the StL Fisher's. Thanks Gary Stoltman Mercerville, NJ

    3. Hi I, too, wonder what happened to the anti-spam law. It does seem clear that it was rushed to prevent California's much stricter law that was to go into effect 01 Jan; that law would have required spam only by prior approval. Spam Assassin intercepts about 300 messages per day for me and I still have about 50 getting thru. Bob Doerr in the beautiful Missouri Ozarks
