    3. OMG - you are the first person I think that has ever talked about St Charles Bborromeo on 29th and Locust. I was baptized there in 49. My parents were part of a group that sang and played the organ and Brother Joseph (I think) was the one who married them. My grandfather and uncle (Federico and Eligio) were interior decorators back when you ddid all the gold leafing and plastering and painting - they did that church. I know I don't have that one. But I will look thru all my others and let you know. 1. New Online Finding Aids to Collections at the Missouri Historical Society
    2. Dennis Northcott
    3. The Missouri Historical Society Library and Research Center, located at 225 South Skinker Blvd. in St. Louis, contains a wealth of published and manuscript material that can be of great value to genealogists. The focus of the society's holdings is the history of St. Louis, the state of Missouri, and the nineteenth-century American West. Recently, several valuable guides to the collections have been posted on the society's website--www.mohistory.org. On the website, researchers can now access the following collection guides: * The "Guide to the Archival Collections," which contains brief descriptions of the scope and content of the more than 2,000 catalogued manuscript collections in the society's archives. These collections comprise (1) personal/family papers, which can include such items as correspondence, diaries, reminiscences, receipts, and deeds; (2) records of businesses, institutions, and organizations, which can include such items as minute books, account books, personnel records, and membership rosters; and (3) records of various local government offices. From the society's main page--www.mohistory.org--click on the "Library and Research" link, then click on "Collection Guide." Researchers should note that the "Guide to the Archival Collections" does not list or describe every document in the archives, rather it broadly describes each catalogued collection of documents. The old-style Archives Card Catalog, which is located in the reading room of the Library and Research Center, indexes to varying degrees the collections described in the "Guide to the Archival Collections." * Finding aids to selected manuscript collections in the archives. These finding aids contain detailed descriptions of the contents of these collections, oftentimes describing each document. The archives staff plans to post more collection finding aids in the near future. From the society's main page--www.mohistory.org--click on the "Library and Research" link, then click on "Collection Guide." * The "Guide to Civil War Manuscripts,"which describes the archives' extensive holdings on this subject. From the society's main page--www.mohistory.org--click on the "Library and Research" link, then click on "Collection Guide." * The "Guide to the Photographs and Prints Collection" and guides to five specific photograph collections. From the society's main page--www.mohistory.org--click on the "Library and Research" link, then click on "Collection Guide." * The online library catalog, which contains approximately 75% of the library's holdings, including books, historical journals, annual reports, and pamphlets. From the society's main page--www.mohistory.org--click on the "Library and Research" link, then click on "Search the Catalog." 2. For the life of me, I can't find the link right now, but somewhere in the last year I saw (and thought I saved) a web site with pictures of many old churches, including Most Holy Trinity. I could eventually get you a picture of Most Holy Trinity because I am the very part-time bookkeeper there, but this web site would be better for you. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about? I thought I came across about the same time I found this list -- could it be linked to Dave Lossos site? Peggy Kruse, Florissant In a message dated 4/28/2005 9:41:55 P.M. 3. Dear Jim, Mary Ann posted this message a little over a year ago. I was fortunate to obtain a copy of the History of the Archdiocese of St. Louis published in 1911. It contains copies of pictures of many of the old churches. The book is at the St. Louis County Library on Lindberg I know and may be at the downtown library as well. I will be glad to make copies of any church picture for anyone - just let me know the church or churches. 3. Diane, I will check out those names, I have seen them before. The spelling is the original from Switzerland and some of the family continued to use it, others have changed it to Ashleman, Eshleman, etc. There are some Aeschlimann that were Mennonites, however, my branch was Catholic. As for the VA Cemetery, I know that my Edward Ashleman served in the Civil War for the Illinois Artillery. I am in Florida so I will have to request the information on the child. The Catholic Cemetery could indicate a child of my Edward and Marie Studer Ashleman. My Great Aunt said that she thought some of Marie's family were Priests in St. Louis. I don't know if this is the case, I am just getting to this generation. Thanks for all of your help. Denise: I found Anna AESCHELMANN, buried at St. Marcus Cemetery at Gravois and River Des Peres on July 5, 1926, Gottlieb AESCHELMANN, also buried at St. Marchus on April 11, 1951, and another Anna AESCHLIMAN (note spelling) , buried 5 July 1926 at St. Marcus, and Herman born 10 Sept. 1902- buried at Jefferson Barracks VA cemetery on 23 Jan. 1985. In the St. Louis Death Registers, I found Arthur AESCHELMANN a one year old child, died 21 July 1864 in St. Louis - lived on Mulberry St. and is buried at Holy Ghost cemetery. I did not find any info on Edward or Maria. I wonder if this one year old child who died in St. Louis in 1864 is a child of theirs. If you are in St. Louis, you can look up the death record from the St. Louis County Library or if you are out of town, request a look up from the St. Louis County Library. You can also get a copy from the Recorder of Deeds office: http://genealogyinstlouis.accessgenealogy.com/recorder.htm#death I checked the on line death records for St. Louis and did not find any more folks with this surname or variants of it. Best of luck Diane Shaw Windy in Hillsboro, MO Subject: Look up From: "Denise Ashleman" <[email protected]> Date: Fri, 22 Apr 2005 22:12:01 -0400 To: [email protected] I am looking for census or something that shows the Aeschliman family, Edward, Maria J., and Edward for 1860. I am looking for my Great Great Grandparents Edward Aeschliman and Marie J. Studer, both were born in Switzerland. Marie J. Studer was born in Switzerland, Feb. 1836, and came to the United States in 1853. The Studer family was Catholic and possibly had priests in the family because Marie and Edward left shortl;y after the birth of Edward and returned to Switzerland. Edward also served in the Civil War and the entire family returned in 1882 from Switzerland and settled in Ohio. I am at a brick wall on this side of the family, everyone that knew anything passed away. Denise Ashleman
