    2. Guess you haven't heard. The wonderful mayor's office has CLOSED all libraries INDEFINITELY!!! They have laid off 197 library employees and kept on 17 (i believe). But I do have ancestry and perhaps can find those records. Just to let you know, the archives is fine at the library. They had minimal damage in the basement. The link to there website is www.NUTRIAS.org. ========================= The above is information from another List concerning the records in New Orleans. I thought those of you with connections there might be interested in knowing this. Gloria

    1. Re: City Walk Tour, Benton Park West-Tour B
    2. Everyone in St. Louis! This weekend the second part of the Benton Park neighborhood walk begins. Tour B begins at the front entrance of the Gravois Planing Mill, 3026 Juniata (at Minnesota), constructed in 1893. Benton Park West, like many south St. Louis neighborhoods, attracted and was first developed by skilled immigrant workers. A vacant lot could be purchased for two to three hundred dollars, and carpenters, stone masons, brick makers and layers, iron workers and others quickly found employment within the blossoming St. Louis economy to support their families and to make payments on home financing loans. The focus of the tour will be on the imprint of their skills on the residential and commercial structures they built. I don't remember the time but can ask if anyone is interested. Gloria

    3. You could try : Vital Records/Recorder of Deeds, City Hall, 1200 Market Street, St. Louis, MO. 63103 ATTN: Marriage License The Fee was 10.00, but that has been a few years ago since I requested one for my grandparents. I also applied in person when I was in St. Louis. It was real neat. The lady in that department, let us touch the signed register and also the application. Hope this helps you. 3. Dear Denise,' I would try the St. Louis Public Library first. It would be the cheapest way to do it. Go to the following website and click on vital records (item # 5) to see what they have, then go back , go to item #13 and click on "Reference Desk" to request the record. http://www.slpl.lib.mo.us/libsrc/geneinfo.htm If they cannot find it, I would try the Recorder of Deed office. http://genealogyinstlouis.accessgenealogy.com/recorder.htm While you are at this website, you might want to click on "Return to Genealogy inSt. Louis" to see what else Dave Lossos has on his very good website. If the family was Catholic, you might want to try and find the church record of the marriage. The Mormon church has microfilmed the Catholic Church records. You would need to know where the bride lived since they would most likely marry in her church. You can email the St. Louis Public Library for look ups and copies of the city directories but the request has to be separate from the request for the marriage lookup. Could someone please advise who I contact to get a copy of a marriage record, it is for Edward Aeschliman and Marie Studer, date - April 12, 1859, Volume/Page 09-364, St. Louis, Missouri Marriages. I am also interested in finding out more about the parents of both individuals. I have a Jacob Studer listed as Marie's father, no mother listed. My Great Grandfather, Edward Ashleman was born to the above parents March 9, 1860. Both parents list place of birth as Switzerland. Thank you, Denise Ashleman

    2. So sad to see these churches sold. I went to grade school at St. William (I was clearly not the BEST student, as can be testified by the nuns there). Wish I could do something to save the building and property. They had a neat ball field and huge parking lot. I remember Father Boul, too. He called me just before I was to be married, and wished me a happy and healthy life with my new husband. Now, who could ask for a more lovely phone call. Father Boul actually baptized me, too. Thanks for helping me to dredge up the memories. 1. St. Stanislaus Church 125 Anniversary
    2. Greetings,Everyone! For those of you who are in the St. Louis region, you may want to check out the 125 anniversary celebration of the St. Stanilaus Catholic Church on 2 Oct 2005. They have a nice invitation in today's Post-Dispatch - Worship Community section, page A19. They are located at 1413 North 20th Street, St. L. MO 63106. It says that "St. Stans" as it is affectionately called has been through some wonderful times and some turbulent times. It goes on to state how Archbishop Kendrick legally titled the parish to the parishoners and a few other tongue in cheek comments. Is this the symbol for that >)? Any way they wish everyone "Sto-lat", which means may you live for 100 years. The mass is at 11:00 and the celebration in the Polish Heritage Center immediately following. Gloria

    3. Dear Pat, A book in our library titled The Industries of St. Louis: Her Advantages, Resources, Facilities and Commercial Relations as a Center of Trade and Manufacture; Together with a Delineation of Representative Industrial and Commercial Establishments (St. Louis, Mo.: J.M. Elstner & Co., 1885) contains a brief historical sketch of a Ronan Bros. business. This sketch mentions a William and Hugh Ronan, so I suspect it is the same family that you are researching. If you would like a photocopy of this article, please send me your postal mailing address. 3. I am on EarthLink.net. It is not so much not to receive mail but to keep me from getting a lot of spam. If I do not have this get about 100 spam emals a day. How would you like to have those in your mail box everyday. Normally the people answer on the list if you don't how long does it take to fill out the form others did and I am getting lots of answers and really appreciate the ones who answer me. I am sorry it is a nuisance but before I had this, I got a virus and lost all in my computer even Family Tree Maker and it was very hard to rebuild it.
