The St. Charles County Missouri Genealogical Society is sponsoring two half-day computer genealogy workshops at 14 April 2007 in St. Peters, Missouri. The morning session will be on "Preserving and Publishing Your Research." The afternoon session will be on "DeedMapper." Registration for each session is separate and does not include lunch. Presentations will be made by Michael John Neill. Discounts are available for Society members and those who attend both sessions. Registration is limited as both sessions are held in computer equipped lecture rooms. For more information, point your browser to: http://www.rootdig.com/stchas2007.htm Thanks. Thanks for your answers. I just called the MO Historical Society Library on Skinker as I should have doen in the first place. They have no knowledge of visitor cards at either the Fair or the Fair Pageant. They do have a registration book which was used to register the various press people who came to report about the fair. LaVerne
Does anyone on this list have knowledge of visitor cards supposedly filled out by visitors to the 1904 St Louis Fair? LaVerne
Some time ago someone was asking about Sappington folks on one of these Lists. In today's Post-Dispatch, which you can see online at www.Stltoday.com there is an article about "At Home with Jim and Charlotte Lubbock" who are living in the former Sappington House dating back to the early 1800s. There are photos and a slide show. Just go to this URL and put in Lubbock. It is the first choice. Gloria

The VA required permission from the cemetery in addition to having the tombstone set. I paid the endowment and perpeptual care fee to Calvary Cemetery and a fee to a monument company that was much more than $40.00. I also hosted a party for the descendants. All told, I spent about $3,000. More than 60 people attended the graveside service . . . all related to me in some way. I only knew 2 of them prior to the event which included some reenactors from the same unit my ggf had served firing 2 volleys. re: Civil War headstone: I went to a funeral home here in Fl and asked them for the papers to get a headstone for my great grandfather, who was buried in Okla. I had to have someone in Okla to be able to accept and put the headstone in and I found someone who was a headstone person who accepted this and it cost me only $40.00 for him to set it. The headstone was free from the government. Try to get the paper you need from a funeral home anyone can give you the papers. he even took pictures after he set it and mailed it to me. I found that my ggf was buried away from everyone else in the family in an unmarked grave. Go to http://www.cem.va.gov/cem/hm_hm.asp for complete information. Because you need documentation, get his military records from the National Archives. Seems to me its back, but then I'm not always correct. Question Does anyone have any information on a confederate soldier buried in a single grave along North Hiway 19 in Crawford County about 2 miles north of Cuba? The headstone simply reads, "Confederate Soldier," and is sitting all by itself with no other visible headstones in the area. This mystery has been plaguing me for over 50 years now. I found this headstone around 1953 and it can be seen from the Hiway. What happened to this lone soldier? Could he have been killed by marauding Indians, or murdered by bandits on the way home from the war, or maybe robbed and killed for his worn out musket, or maybe hung for a deserter by the sheriff of Crawford County, or maybe he might have expired eating tainted possum while passing through Franklin county on the way home, what happened to this lonely sojourner in Crawford County?----Jim ----- Original Message ----- From: Bob Doerr<mailto:bdoerr@msm.umr.edu> To: mo-stlouis-metro@rootsweb.com<mailto:mo-stlouis-metro@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, December 09, 2006 9:13 AM Subject: Re: [MO-STLOUIS-METRO] Brick Wall Does this mean that St Louis Metro is back? If anyone goes to this or has other info on this process, I would love info on how to get a headstone. I have a gg-grandfather Civil War Veteran buried at Sts Peter and Paul. I have a copy of his family lot record and have visited and found a big empty space. Only headstone remaining in the family plot is a granddaughter of his and her husband. I rechecked for any W surname in that book which covers 1907-1964 and there is no one who would fit Marie. Check with the Salem Methodist lead you had - possibly it was that. I also don't know about the fact that they moved her body. I know as of at least 1970 it was in the deed you could not exhume and remove a body for any reason without a court order. Do you have any lead at all as to where they moved her? and why? -----Original Message----- From: SSmith3901@aol.com To: mo-stlouis-metro@rootsweb.com; stlouis-mo@rootsweb.com; StLouis-MO-L@rootsweb.com; StLouis-MO-D@rootsweb.com; MO-STLOUIS-D@rootsweb.com; MO-STLOUIS-METRO-D@rootsweb.com Sent: Fri, 12 Jan 2007 8:42 PM Subject: Re: [MO-STLOUIS-METRO] [STLOUIS-MO] Salem Cemetery I checked with a sister to Marie and she said yes it was Salem Lutheran. Yes the family was Lutheran and that is probably the one. The death certificate says the Undertaker was "Geo L. Pleitsih", address 5966 Easton Avenue. The Deputy Coroner was J. W. Kemer or Kernes or Kerner, can't quite make it out. What is the address for the cemetery? Thank you so much.
I am looking for Sunset Cemetery. I just found a death certificate of a child in the family who was buried there. Any one know the whereabouts of Sunset?
