    3. Well, at the very least he was *from* Tennessee, and he was President of the US.<g> Yep, checking the Polk Co TN website, you see: Polk County, Tennessee's 72nd county, so named to honor newly-elected Governor James K. Polk, ...... However, Polk County, MO, doesn't have quite the same naming history: (from the Polk Co MO website) Polk County was formed from Greene County and was established on January 5, 1835. John Polk and Ezekiel Madison Campbell, earliest known settlers in the area, are credited with the naming of the county. They submitted the name, Polk, in memory of their grandfather Col. Ezekiel Polk who fought in George Washington's army. If I recall correctly, Ezekiel was kin to James K. I have tvld through it on various occassions. Now I could be wrong on this part as my memory plays tricks on me. But I think a James K. Polk was the first governor of Tennessee. 1. [MOROLLCALL] POLK St. Louis 1800's
    2. kfaulkner1
    3. Joseph Polk and Nancy Couch Polk, born in Tennesee, supposedly moved to St. Louis, Missouri prior to the 1850's and raised a family there. One of their sons, George Harvey Polk, was my great-grandfather, but I have not been able to verify that he ever lived in St. Louis or anywhere else in Missouri. I do know he lived in Arkansas, Misssissippi, and Alabama, and that he reportedly lived in Tennessee and Kentucky. George said that he worked for the St. Louis Fire Department in the 1870's. His father, Joseph, may have been a Methodist minister. Any information on this family line would be greatly appreciated. Kathy

    1. UPDATE: [MOROLLCALL] Roll Call - Russel(l) HARMON]
    2. Karen
    3. Hi all, I sent this message out earlier and thanks to Monica, I have found that this is not my Henry Harmon after all. Here is what she said: "The Russell Harmon on the 1860 Andrew Co., MO census wass the son of Daniel and Mandana (Reader)Harmon. He married Susan Johnson. According to an article in the Savannah Reporter in 1887, their son Henry was "declared to have unsound mind" and was committed to an institution in 1887. The Russell Harmon family was also on the 1870 Nodaway Co., MO census." The reason I have ruled them out is that my Henry was getting married in May of 1887. He had two kids and raised them. Sorry for the miscue. Karen I am looking for the family of Russel(l) HARMON before 1860. In 1860, he appeared on the Andrew Co. Census married to Susan and had children: William, age 7 Matilda, age 5 Henry, age 3 (or 2) Lucinda, age 9 mos. At that time, both Russel(l) and Susan were 34. He was born in VA and Susan was born in MO. He was a farmer and owned quite a sizeable property for the time...worth $8920. If you know of his parents or of Susan's parents, I would appreciate the help. I believe that Henry was my ggrandfather. Thank you! Karen HARMON Linton

    1. [MOROLLCALL] Researching
    2. Hi! This is my first message to the Roll Call list and I apologize if I do this incorrectly, but here goes: I am currently trying to research my family tree beyond my great-grandparents. My paternal Grandmother is 96 and still living in St. Joseph, Andrew County, MO and has been most helpful in giving me names and places. In brief, here is what I know: My grandmother is Mildred Elma Veach, and she was born in McCurry, Gentry County, MO. Her parents were George Alonso Veach (born in KY) and Elizabeth Consolver (possibly born in Hugginsville, Gentry County MO). My grandfather was Wesley Arthur Salmons and I do not know where he was born. His parents were Silas Salmons and Margaret Harriet Roberts. Mildred and Wesley were married in Belleville, Republic County KS in 1924 and moved shortly thereafter to the SALMONS family farmland between the cities of St. Joseph and Savannah MO (Andrew county). They have 5 children. I have more information on my Grandparents' brothers and sisters, etc. but not much else. If anyone has information, or would like me to send more of what I have, please let me know. I truly appreciate your time!
