    3. We have an article each week in the paper and it got me thinking.... What is your greatest or favorite family heirloom or treasure that you own that you would hate to lose? Tell us!! With the tornadoes going around in the Ozarks, and with tornadoes being a constant threat out here in Kansas, I have wondered what I would save if I had to made an emergency run to the basement.. I have quilts that ancestors made; family antique dishes; notebooks of family info filled with those wonderful old pictures; and so much more. I have already kept my son's baby book and his photo album filled with pictures from his 1st year stashed in the basement... but I have to admit, it would be a very tough decision what I would grab first of my pet genealogy treasures. What about you? Lanita Sconce Miller Wichita, KS For information on my families, check out my website: www.lanitasloft.com Am I the only person up my tree... sure seems like it.

    3. No doubt here...my grandmother's and aunts quilts and my research. Be careful with your baby books though Lanita...as a former pro photographer I know the dangers of what a basement can do to photos. Why not scan all photos to disk and store in an area that is safe and dry with some silica gel to protect the disks also? I still vividly remember my childhood in MI and the tornados...I remember one particular evening standing on the porch with my father as 3 tornados swirled above us and within moments destroyed the whole town of Coldwater MI, only a very few miles away. The devastation and twigs and straw driven through tree trunks will always be with me. Living in Memphis tested my strength and intolerance for storms each year...MS was no better, AZ may be hot and dry...and we have our microbursts that do lots of damage...but tornados are few and far between, thank the Lord!
