There is a story about John and an uncle_________Rachel and black man crossing a river in a row boat. His uncle was quite drunk and he decided that the black man was not rowing fast enough. He drew his knife, intending to cut the rower's throat. John hit his uncle so hard he knocked him out of the boat. His uncle apparently caught a "chill" -but however that might have been- he was "layed up" from 4 to 6 weeks, and thought he was going to die. (He did recover). also: John Harvey's wife (Martha Ann Manda) was the first one in the family to join the RE-ORGANIZED CHURCH of JESUS CHRIST of LATTER DAY SAINTS, due to the influence of Hannah Bowers, who was the first member (Convert) in the community. They were previously Methodists. Her obituary has her birthday as 1849. She died at her old home-stead (Emeriar's home at time) from a stroke. They had lived for a time in Woodruff Co. before coming to Hardy, Ark. She is reported to have joined the R.L.D.S. Church in 1892 and remained faithful til death.
