I wonder if some of the people who were granted lands in faraway places may not have had the money or the ability to get to it. Does anyone know what happened to land when the grantee couldn't take possession? Were they able to sell the land or did it revert to the government? What if they got there and found out their land was in a swamp, too rocky to farm or already taken over by a squatter? What if you couldn't determine what land was yours (lightning destroyed the big oak tree or the river changed its course)?
