    3. Okay, here's the deal.... My husband is descended from the particular family in question. I have alot of info on the family particularly locally, and can get tombstone pics easily [locally],, but before I can get additional info that goes way back with documentation, one of the leaders of the family association has said that they cannot share even the remote bit of info unless we become members of the association, and thereby pay dues [annually]... Only THEN can they and will they share info, if we share in return.... This sticks in my craw, I'm offended by it all... but I'm beginning to feel like maybe, I'm just being cheap, or stubborn, or just don't want to be told what I can do and what I can't do.... a couple of people have shared info with me, but they are scared that others will find out that they have shared 'prized' info with non-members... Am I being illogical? I need all of your thoughts!! Please post to the list. Lanita

    3. Lanita, Actually I've encountered two of these so far - and like you say they won't give you anything until you JOIN their society. These two I've basically have ignored and went on with my own research. A bit upset or peeved at first - but have talked to others who have since joined and they have now come to me seeking information and seen my sites - saying that I have more than the organization do and just as resourced. But to be fair to these organization, I met a man in charge of another one, and he was wanting information from me to put in his society. I gladly reciporcated. And he even did fill in a couple of blanks after that and wrote a very nice thank you letter. *By the way I just found another family of mine (some Jobe descendants - remember I trace them all especially from Andrew Jr) - so if any of you are researching ODLE in Shannon Co., MO - please drop me a line. Thanks, Ann (Jobe) Brown [email protected]
