He married Rowena Gilmore in Cole County, Missouri, and moved to Texas County, Missouri, with other members of the McKinney family. Family tradition says that Rowena was at least part Indian, perhaps full-blooded. Calvin and Rowena had 9 children. Calvin is thought to be buried in the Gilmore Cemetery about one mile northwest of Yukon, but no grave marker with their name exists there. <details of McKinney children deleted to save space>
