    1. Re: [MO-OREGON-HISTORY] ROLL CALL- Martha & Joseph Looney
    2. Carolyn, Kara and others tracking Martha Looney, We need records that don't seem to be available. Some questions continue: Did we originally get the idea Martha was a Looney from Coleman's Bible giving her birthdate? Where did we get the info that Martha (Looney?) was possibly sister of husband Bill's Joseph Looney (who m. Coleman's sister Thena Stubblefield)? Is that why we thought Martha was Looney since families frequently intermarried and traveled together? If Joseph and Martha were Looney siblings's, whose children were they? I have thoroughly researched Jonathan and Jane Harbison Looney and there is absolutely no evidence they ever had children that grew to adulthood and certainly not found on any records - anywhere. Husband Bill is a direct descendent of the above Joseph and Thena Stubblefield Looney. However, he could not do the DNA for the Looney project since he has dropped off the Looney direct male line through his Grandmother Thena Elizabeth Looney Clinging. We knew another direct male descendent from the Joseph and Thena line who did carry the Looney name and asked him to do the DNA for us. (through his Joseph/Thena to Wm. Stubblefield Looney line) He did the test and tested completely out of the Looney gene pool. His closest match beyond the first 12 marker is with a Metcalfe in England. There were Metcalfe's in the colonies very early and in Hawkins Co, TN.. Was Joseph perhaps a product of a Metcalfe and Looney female in Hawkins Co? Or an adoptee but carrying the Looney name? Was someone on our donor's particular line an adoptee, etc., and someone from perhaps the Metcalfe line? To get a clearer picture of Joseph and Martha Looney, we desperately need another direct Looney male to test from this Joseph's line. If we can find where Joseph came from, perhaps it will lead us to where Martha belongs, also. We have offered to pay the DNA testing fees, but no descendent has come forward to take us up on the offer. One kind soul from another Looney line offered but that was not going to give us the DNA evidence we needed. Unless we find out where Joseph came from , I doubt we will ever know where Martha came from, either. I have found records indicating that Wm. Stubblefield was in Hawkins Co., TN for 18 years (from 1792) prior to his arriving in AR early 1800's. That puts the family in the same area as Michael (3) Looney whose son, Wm. m. Rhoda Stubblefield, daughter of Wm. Stubblefield. Perhaps there were other Looney families in Hawkins Co., at the same time.. Any help here, or fresh ideas, would be appreciated. 3. Nita, the Bible page just says Martha STUBBLEFIELD - I just looked again to be sure! Perhaps James Wall would participate in this discussion!!!!! He is really one of the best in straitening out the tangles! ----- Original Message ----- From: <N5BRY@aol.com> To: <mo-oregon-history@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, June 14, 2007 10:25 AM Subject: Re: [MO-OREGON-HISTORY] ROLL CALL- Martha & Joseph Looney > > Carolyn, Kara and others tracking Martha Looney, > > We need records that don't seem to be available.
