    3. Doris, You and I have talked via email about my husband's great grandmother,Eliza HUDDLESTON, who married Wm. H. LEWIS (1828-1861 in Oregon County on June 26, 1856. In the 1860 census they have a child, age 3, in the household, Pembroke Adolph LEWIS. Wm. H. died in 1861. In the 1870 census, the child, Pembroke, is with Wm. H. LEWIS' parents, Joel and Rebecca EAGLETON LEWIS in Piedmont, MO. (Maybe he wasn't Eliza's child?) In 1880 Eliza Huddleston Lewis is with her sister, Letia and Letia's husband, George HUMPHREY. Eliza has had a male child, who is 3 years old. Father of this child is unknown. This child, Hayden Lewis, was my husband's grandfather. On his death certificate, his mother's surname is shown as HUMPHREY. As I recall, you talked to your mother. She felt that the HUMPHREY surname got attached to Eliza through association with the HUMPHREY family, not throught marriage. Do you remember this email conversation? I was such a newbie, that I am not sure where I saved it. Sigh. Anyway, I have done more general research and feel strongly that Joel and Rebecca LEWIS were Cherokee. (She was born in NC, they married in TN, and died in MO.) Wm. H. was born in AL. This family was on the move. Wm. H. always said that he was Cherokee and illegitimate (not his exact words). I would so like to figure out who his father was. Any further thoughts? My name is Joan Rusk. My email is JGRNLR@cableone.net ----- > > __________________________________________________________ >
