    3. Lanita, I have been curious about how Oregon Co. camed to be named that. Do you have any idea or even why it was changed from Webster? 3. It was never named Webster. Oregon county was created in 1845 from part of Ripley County. Ripley County was created in 1833 from part of Wayne County. Wayne county was created before statehood and covered about the area of everything south of and including Springfield. Webster County was created in 1855 from land that was part of the original Wayne county. 3. According to Lewis Simpson, deceased historian from Alton, the name Oregon was selected for Oregon County because the Oregon Trail was very much in the news in those days and the people liked the name. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gene Phillips" <okienms@telepath.com> To: <mo-oregon-history@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, April 21, 2007 8:05 PM Subject: Re: [MO-OREGON-HISTORY] Fristoe's Regiment, MO Calvary > It was never named Webster.
