Hello everyone, Lanita found the marriage record for my great grandparents in Oregon Co, 1870 After I had been told it did not exist. Now I have no idea why they married in Oregon Co MO. My Gates line had lived in Lawrence Co Mo prior and possibly during the civil war. However by 1870 I can find none of them in any census I check. The Oregon Co 1870 census is very hard to read, I finally gave up. Is the whols census so difficult to read...should I continue to struggle with it? Would it be any better if I ordered the actual film into the local LDS center and viewed it there? If I remember correctly there is virtually no index for this census? Looking for: Michael/Mikel Gates, born abt 1811, KY. Married Catherine Ann Cline born VA. Parents of Frank Gates Simpson Franklin Gates, also known as Frank or just S.F. , born IN 1836, married to Sarah Jane Noss, born Lawrence Co MO. Parents of the Michael below. Michael C. Gates, born 1859 Lawrence Co MO, married Elizabeth Piercy Privett in Oregon Co Mo 1870. By the early 1870's they are settling into Randolph Co AR. I wondered if they might have temporarily settled in Oregon Co MO, enroute to Randolph Co. If someone has knowledge of them, I would love to hear from you.
