    3. Well, I am back home from a week of research! I was thrilled to learn a couple of things. My parents and I had a chance to head down Pokey [as my dad calls it] way, and found lots of much needed documentation. Also got a chance to meet Betty Tucker, for a few minutes and was thrilled!! I also reseached in Alton's new library as well as the courthouse, and Eminence's courthouse and Winona's library. I have learned a few things about the area that might be of interest to other researchers: 1. The new Alton library is WONDERFUL!!! If you do go back, be sure to spend an afternoon there. Janice Richardson [full time librarian] and our own Doris Johnson [volunteer] are GREAT with helping and explaining the new system, and such. 2. The Winona library is in an old building in downtown Winona, and they are in the midst of doing inventory for their NEW library.. They only have 3 volunteers so the library is only open 1:30pm to 3:30pm, M-F.. lots of info there including some books with obits, so check it out. I found several obits that I didn't have. They also have census books that they are selling as well as other info. 3. I had to go to my SCONCE reunion yesterday to find this bit out.... there was an older gentlemen that saved ALL of the old obits before any funeral homes were in Eminence. [He has since passed]... He donated his books to Duncan Funeral Home, so there is a DEFINITE possibility that those obits that you didn't think was possible being in existence, just MIGHT be at Duncans. I personally am going to check it out for some older ones I need. 4. If you have never gone to a courthouse before for research, do NOT make Pocahontas the first one you've ever gone to!!!!!!! They will spoil you rotten with helpfulness, kindness, and just wonderful attitudes for the family researcher. I couldn't believe that 3 of them got up from their work and VOLUNTEERED with not a scowl on their face or attitude, to look up and make the copies of the marriage records I needed.. There were several, and I was just overwhelmed by their willingness to help. They were nice, thoughtful, willing to help... like a breath of fresh air! They also were kind to my father, who thought he needed to tell them who, what, when and where of what he remembered many years ago... They were kind and patient with him, and when we left, I slipped back in and thanked them, and apologized for my father for disturbing them.. they 'poo pooed' the idea that he was bothering them, [even when I knew that wasn't true], and was just so wonderful. I wish we could CLONE those women and put them in every courthouse in every office in the nation.. how much better we would be as researchers!!! 5. I also found a GOB of documentation for the DAVIS, STUBBLEFIELD, PRINCE, BELLAH and MARIOTT families. Some of you may already have them, but if you are connected to these, stay tuned. I will post online what I found, and if you don't have the documents, I will scan and send to you privately after you let me know what you need. 6. I also found a couple of documents for my John D. JUSTICE... I have already scanned and sent to Carolyn Boone, but if you need them, let me know.. I found the marriage license for his 2nd marriage, as well as STUMBLING across his signature in another person's file. [the deceased owed my John D. JUSTICE money, and John D. JUSTICE signed a note saying as such.. Who would have thought that I would have found a signature of my ggggrandfather anywhere!!! 7. I also came home to an envelope of photocopies of the BIBLE RECORDS for my Jesse M. TAYLOR and Betsy JUSTICE. So, if you are connected to these, let me know, and I will send you scanned copies of the info. I will tell you about my trip to Yadkin in the next email...what a trip!! Lanita I'm always late. My ancestors arrived on the JUNE flower.

    3. Hi Lanita, It was so very nice to meet you!! I am so thrilled that you had such a successful visit to Randolph County. Those ladies at the County Clerk's office are just super great in helping those that come into their office. They don't only help, they really do listen to what you have to say!! I just wish that I could say that about all such places that I have been. Mrs Mock and her staff are always willing to go that extra mile to help in any way they can (I think it is called southern hospitality!) and as a result their reputation is becoming known far and wide. I have heard lots of praise on their behalf and I never fail to let them know what folks are saying. Their efforts are truly appreciated by many! So gald I got to meet and hopefully you will return sometime soon and we can have a longer visit. Now that you know how much R C has to offer in the line of research, I think you will be back soon. I will try to find out about the original gate at Bellah Cemetery. Someone must surely know. If I have to go to the nursing home and talk to Mrs Wrenfrow, I will. Take care.
