Please post ONE of your brick walls, and what sources and avenues you have tried to find the answers [i.e., census, marriages, probate... etc.] Maybe there's an avenue we haven't thought of to try, that someone else has tried which proved successful... I'm trying to find the 1st wife of Nelson McWILLIAMS [Neelson???], who was with his 2nd wife in the 1850 Oregon Co. Census... his 2nd wife was Mary A.[Polly] BAKER. MCWILLIAMS, NILSON, [Farmer], 33, AR Mary A. , 22, Unknown Malinda, 11, MO********I want to know her mother. Permilia, 4, MO William S. , 3m, MO They didn't get married in Oregon Co., and I've tried Randolph Co. AR and Ripley Co. MO... nothing there. No probate records are available, and I have not come across any Bible Records.. Lanita

Big Brick Wall: Oliver Hardy Shurron, b. 1863-4 in Tennessee, raised by Jabel and Aurora (? spelling) Putnam. They were in Dunklin Co., MO on the 1870 census and then in Oregon Co. MO right after that. We have no idea who his parents were and there are no male descendents. The 1880 census say his parents were b. in NC. Well my brick wall is still the maiden name of Prudence - wife of Eli B. Jobe. She appears on the 1850 Oregon Co., Missouri census with Eli and appears to be the same lady that is listed with Eli on the 1840 Ripley Co., Missouri Census and 1830 Wayne Co., Missouri Census. No marriage or Bible Record. She isn't mentioned in Eli's will dated March 7, 1854 - so have to assume that she died between the 1850 census and March 1854. Eli's 1st child, Epsey A., was born about 1822 Missouri (according to 1850 census) The 1st real record I've found which mentions Eli is 1826 -C-320 Lawrence Co., ARkansas 28 February 1826 - Tuesday. At a Circuit Court began and held at the courthouse in the Town of Davidsonville, Lawrence Co.,, Territory of Arkansas. Was present the Honorable James Woodson BATES, Esquire, judge of the second judicial circuit. Joseph HARDIN, Esquire, sheriff of Lawrence Co., appeared in open court and presented a panel of grand jurors, who, when called came, to wit: Abner B. WEST (foreman), Coleman STUBBLEFIELD, Amos JUSTICE, William JARRETT, Edward McDONALD, John MANSKER, William LOONEY, Eli JOB, Thomas NEWELL, Daniel SHAVER, Edward RICHARDSON, Samuel RANEY, James RANEY, Henry WAYLAND, Jacob OGDEN, Alvis ERVIN, Nathaniel McCARRILL, Gabriel THOMAS, Elijah VINSON & Thomas BAKER. *Also the Oregon Co., Missouri History Books states ""Before 1818 - Eli B. Jobe was living in Present-day Oregon Co, Missouri" I don't know what the source was for this statement. Have found records of Eli's brothers, Isaac and Caleb as early as 1821-1822 Lawrence Co., KY 1821 -June 6, "Early Lawrence Co. AR Records 1817 - 1830" "June 6, 1821, Wednesday, the third day of the (court) term. ....for Davidson Twp... the election is to be held at the home of Isaac Jobe. " *So it would make sense that Eli could have married in Davidson Twp, Lawrence Co., AR - or what constituted this area in 1821-1822 time frame. Any Help appreciated. Ann (Jobe) Brown

Hi, One of my brick walls is the whereabouts of Lindley Couch (son of Moses Couch) between 1825 and 1840. Lindley was in Whitley County, Kentucky, in 1825. He then seems to disappear until 1840, when he shows up in the 1840 Ripley County census. Where was Lindley during this 15-year gap in time? The biography of Lindley's grandson, Alfred Perry Couch, which appeared in Reminiscent History Of The Ozark Region, published by Goodspeed Brothers in 1894, stated (referring to Alfred's father and to Lindley) that they "in the thirties, came to Fulton County, Arkansas. Soon after this family moved to what is now Oregon County, Missouri". Arkansas did not become a state until 1836, and Fulton County was taken from Izard County in 1842. And, of course, Oregon County was taken from Ripley County in 1845, and Ripley County was not taken from Wayne County until 1833. So, Lindley probably lived in Izard County, in either Arkansas or in Arkansas Territory, and moved to either Wayne County, or Ripley County, depending on when he made the move. I have had no success in finding Lindley in the 1830 census. No children that we are aware of were born to Lindley and his wife after 1825, so determining the place of birth of his childen would not be of any help. I'm looking for any additional clues as the where Lindley lived between 1825 and his arrival in Ripley County, and am looking for any additional information that might narrow down the year when Lindley and his family first arrived in Ripley County. My brick wall is still my ggrandmother, Angeline Davis Smith (7 NOV 1845-18 NOV 1919), wife of Campbell Smith in Randolph County. I have looked for a marriage record in Randolph, Lawrence, Clay, Ripley, and Oregon Counties without success. The only info I do have on her is: >From "Directory of Randolph County, Arkansas,1910," compiled by L. F. Blankenship, published by Star Herald Printing Company, Pocahontas, AR, 1910: Page 51, Hamil, ARK, Postoffice, Jackson Township SMITH, CAM, 70 farmer, came from Tenn in 1859, married Angeline DAVIS in 1863, 5 children, Cilla, Caroline, Cam, Mark and Nettie, 160 acres hill. >From Pocahontas Start Herald, 28 NOV 1919: Aunt Ann Smith died at her home near here last Tuesday and was buried in Roach graveyard on Thursday. Found this newspaper article, which gives a little bit of a hint: >From The News Herald, 7 SEP 1906, p 5: "Mrs Angelina Smith of Warm Springs wishes to know the address of her sister, Nancy Jane Davis, who left Neelyville, MO in 1863." The 1870 census gives birthplace for Angeline as TN, the 1880 gives IL, the 1900 & 1910 say MO. Needless to say she has been very difficult to find!
