This is a fairly large list of features (mostly springs) that may be named after people. I am looking for the location of these features. I'd appreciate any information anybody can supply to help me locate these features: Bates Spring Bockman Spring Boyd Spring Clarence Dobbs Spring Everett Chaney Joshua Myres Spring Leech Spring McCormack Trail McDowell Murray Spring Payne Spring Sam Smith Thrasher Ford Tunsel Spring Mike Flannigan

Here is some more VERY interesting data pertaining to my prior post. If anybody has any history on springs, mills, or other geological or historical sites in Oregon county, I'm interested in hearing about it. I have quite a bit, but am always looking for more. Name a site and I'll share what I have. ______________________________________ Subject: Re: [MO-OREGON-HISTORY] Re: Springs and Things Date: Sun, 12 Jan 2003 19:33:06 -0600 From: "Andrew & Liz Van Camp" <evancamp@fidnet.com> To: "Mike Flannigan" <mikeflan@earthlink.net> I have three of her books...the one I mentioned, one on school houses and one on post offices. My husband's aunt's aunt is a friend of Geneva's and helped her locate and photograph the sites for her books. Got that? ;-) As you can see, the directions are not real specific, so I hope this helps at least point you in the right direction. LIZ Bates Spring One and one half mile over Wild Cat Hill east of Alton, Missouri, on Rd. 160-100 is the Bates Spring. It is now on Carson Ross (1999). Sam Smith Spring The Sam Smith Spring is a few miles upstream on the Eleven Point River from Thomasville, Missouri. At one time Mr. Smith had a grist mill, which ground corn and/or wheat, located on the north side of the spring. McDowell Cave McDowell Cave is a large, dry cave in the Irish Wilderness area. It was once used by the McDowells for a cellar because part of the cave ran under the back portion of their house. It is on Rd. 161, south from Wilderness, Missouri. Mike, A history of the involvement of Oregon County men in the Missouri State Guard in 1861 mentions "the John W. Hall spring", located on Section 16 Township 22 Range 3. I'm assuming that this was a spring on the John W. Hall farm.
