Found this online. I knew most of these, but had forgotten a couple: Naming Patterns in England, 1700-1875 1st son -- father's father 2nd son -- mother's father 3rd son -- father 4th son -- father's eldest brother 1st daughter -- mother's mother 2nd daughter -- father's mother 3rd daughter -- mother 4th daughter -- mother's eldest sister Younger children would be named after earlier ancestors, but the pattern in their case was more varied. One variation from the above was for the eldest son to be named after the mother's father and the eldest daughter after the father's mother. In this case the second son would be named after the father's father and the second daughter after the mother's mother. Occasionally the second son and daughter would be named after the father and mother instead of the third son and daughter. Another variation was to name the third daughter after one of the great-grandmothers instead of after the mother. In such a case, the fourth daughter would usually be named after the mother. Hope this helps! Lanita I think my family tree is a few branches short of full bloom.
Lanita, Your Dethrow Reunion notice appeared on page 3 of the Tuesday, July 10 edition of the West Plains Daily Quill. I don't get the South-Missourian paper, so, someone else will need to watch for that. Doris
Aunt Mary Lou just told me that she was told that her Uncle Hugh Edward HYDER s/o Abby Dallas HYDER & Malinda Catherine "Kate" ADAMS was related to our Oregon Co., Missouri HUFF family. but she no longer recalled how. I think I have figured out how and wonder if anyone connected to these families is are on these lists? James ADAMS b. d. m. 8 Jan 1852 Oregon Co., Missouri to Sarah C. HUFF Sarah C. HUFF d/o Leonard HUFF & Sarah MEREDITH (my g-g-g-grandparents as well) b. 1834 Arkansas d. They have a daughter listed as Catherine ADAMS. This is the correct link between the families. Does anyone recognize James ADAMS & Sarah C. HUFF? Malinda Catherine "Kate" ADAMS is their daughter which explains what my Aunt Mary Lou WALL STAHL recalls. And my fabulous Aunt Mary Lou WALL STAHL turns 71 today so I want to wish her a Happy Birthday as well. Will cross post on MOHOWELL list as well as my WALLs, BRAYs, ALLENs, FARRARs, DUNCANs, HUFFs, STUBBLEFIELDs all straddled the Howell/Oregon Co. lines so will post there as well The son of Abby Dallas HYDER & Malinda Catherine "Kate" ADAMS was Hugh Edward HYDER and he married Grandpa's elder sister Vida Irene WALL. My Great-Uncle Hugh was born in West Plains, Howell So., Missouri 6 October 1896 and he died December of 1976 in Ellsworth, Ellsworth Co., Kansas. Aunt Vida shares my birthday a few year prior 18 October 1897 at Brandsvill, Howell Co., Missouri and she passed away August of 1977 Ellsworth, Ellsworth Co., Kansas. Aunt Vida always made me feel special as a child because we shared the 18th of October for birthdays. Their daughter Mary Elvira HYDER was b. 19 Oct 1923 so this is a very October family, lol. Assistance appreciated, james wall

Because some of my people live in West Plains and wouldn't be going over to the Alton Library. Lanita
Lanita, Why don't you just send a notice to the library at Alton? They seem to be the hub of the local things. For you local residents, I need a favor. I put an announcement via email to the West Plains Quill and the Thayer SMD regarding our Dethrow Reunion on Sept 1. I sent them a 2nd notice this weekend. Would you guys be on the lookout for it.? I really need to know whether or not they are printing the notices or not. I'm depending upon it to remind the locals about our reunion. Thanks, Lanita

Mike, I've had quite a week, almost losing my husband Sat. night from massive bleeding and other complications. We are now home after being in the hospital a full week, with half being in ICU. s! For now, if you have emailed me for a lookup or whatever, I have been staying at the KC VA HOSPITAL for the full week. We are exhausted and I need to get my husband back to the state of being comfortable at leaving him alone. Will get back to you if you emailed me, as soon as possible, but I'm sure you can understand my slowness. Thanks, Lanita
Hi, I'm needing assistance with one of my "brick walls". I'm trying to identify the Mr. Stubbs who was the second husband of Simpson Couch's daughter, Mary Jane Couch. Her first husband was Davis C. Brewer. Her second husband was a Stubbs. Mary Jane and her second husband had a daughter, Susie, who was raised by Rebecca (Roberts) Simpson. I have Susie Stubbs' obit and census records. I have seen her father's name listed by other researchers as John Stubbs and as David Stubbs, and have heard that it might have been Luke Stubbs, and am currently working on the theory that it might have been Lewis Stubbs. But I don't have anything solid to go on. Does anyone on the list have any information about the name of Mary Jane Couch's second husband, and the father of Susie Stubbs? Or any information about any Stubbs family with a connection to Oregon County? Thanks for any help, Mike Landwehr
According to my genealogy program, Jesse Huddleston is my husband, Norm Rusk's, "second great grand uncle." Their common ancestor is Abraham Huddleston. I might have some info for you. I missed the original question, just tuned in for your answer. Joan Griffin Rusk
This is what I have, so hope it will help. Jesse Huddleston born 1814 in Smith County, Tenn. He marries 1st. Sept. 17, 1835 in Ripley county, Mo. to Harriett Huddleston (daughter of his cousin, Anthony). They had 2 children and she died before 1840. Jesse and their children went to live with his parents. He maried 2nd. time Aug. 22, 1842 to Rachael Bellah (daughter of Judge Walter Bellah and Elizabeth Thomas). They had 2 children and she died. He married 3rd. Oct. 17. 1845 to Camilla "Milly" Bellah (Rachaels sister) and they had 5 children. In 1850 Harriett's children, Henry and Martha were still living with their grandparents, Abraham and Mary Huddleston. In 1850 Jesse and Milly were in Oregon Co. with her and Rachael's children. Jesse died before 1858. Don't know where he was buried. I'm not sure if this was anything you were interested in or not. At the moment haven't found where she was buried at either. If I find anything on her, will let you know. Have several things I haven't looked through yet. Fern Harris
Richard and Lanita, We have a DNA match with the Adams name...not odd, except the family name is Reilley/Riley. Just wondering if our Reilley/Riley was really an adopted Adams. That's all. It would have had to go back to at least 1838-1840 in Kentucky. Pat, I don't know about historically, but there was an ADAMS that lived next to me on Highway 19 just North of Thayer that had lived there all of his life. He is probably about 70 years old. I went to school with both of his kids. Pat, what time period are we talking about? Lanita
Can anyone tell me whether there was an Adams family in Oregon Co, MO and/or in Fulton or Izard Co.,AR? I'm following a hunch. Pat Miller
Martha, I checked the census and marriages, looking for "A.O." "Cami", 'Camilla', "Milley", "Alpha", "Alphie", everything I could think of, I suspect she's listed in a new marriage, and might be using her middle name... Lanita
Still searching for Camilla Bellah Huddleston born Sept 16, 1823 married Jesse Huddleston. She is on the 1860 census with 6 year old Alpha Omega in Oregon County. I can not find her after 1860. Garrison, Isham, Buckner, Edmond. The three brothers were in Lawrence County Ark 1830-35. I can not find any of them on the 1840 census. They show up in Cole and Texas Counties 1850 and on. I live in Jefferson City just a few miles from the State Archives. It was my second home for several years. It has been a year since I was there but they have 3 hour parking in front of the building, they do mark tires. Several large state parking lots near by and I understand it is also for the public. The archives receives new information through the years, so I am planning on going back this summer. Most of my information came from the archives and the University of MO library in Columbia. I am a member of the State Society and I will attend the Annual Conference Aug 3 & 4.
