As usual, JOBE, JOB and more Jobe and my web pages which are growing tremendously! And the hardest, toughest brick wall to break down is still trying to find the maiden name of Prudence - wife of Eli B. Job who lived right in Jobe Township! Okay, you guys!! What's new?? What is everyone working on so hard that there are no postings to this List? I'm working to trying to find concrete documentated info on my John and Sarah ELLIOTT, parents of my Phebe ELLIOTT DETHROW.. Phebe mar. Elias DETHROW, and they were in Oregon Co. by 1868... That got started again when I found my Phebe's sister's obit... another case of families loosing touch!! So, that was exciting, but we are hitting brick walls and getting lots of headaches!! Have also been trying to locate current living cousins on Sadie's line, but with no luck!.. I also was sent an obit for my William Daniel MARIOTT SCONCE, brother to my ggrandfather, John H.C. SCONCE, who lived in Calif. That was exciting to see some more info.. Have been trying to locate current living cousins, as well, but with no luck either!.. I have also broken down and put some gedcoms on the worldconnect.. so many people have put my line on there and several have mistakes and they are refusing to correct.. so, I figure that if my info is going to be out there, it'd better be right!! So, I broke down and did it!! Welcome back JIM!! JIM wrote me tonight and tells me that he has been in the hospital, and is now out and back on the 'net! We're glad you're doing better, JIM!! We missed you!! What is everyone else working on? This List is WAAYYY to quiet!! Lanita
I have found my Hiram D. Robertson (of the alien from a space ship family) and his wife Phoebe Pulse listed in ancestry for Marriages in MO. they are there as Hiram Robinson and Feby Pulse so i did some searching for Robinson and found a Hiram D. Robinson in Knox Co, Lebanon Twp in 1860. Also Hiram D. Robertson Laclede Co, Lebanon Twp 1860. Does anyone have access to these census so I could see more info like who is living with him etc?? thanks. rachell
I have the 1900 census on Pulaski Co. Mo. Knowland, Nowlin, Nollan, Nolan, and others John born March 1856 Mo. Elizabeth b. May 1869 Tenn. William Nov. 1883 Mo. Thanks, Barbara eor@saber.net
Oh.. and I was going to say about world tree. first of all i've learned so much from all of you about making sure and including source info. I"m pretty new at this genealogy stuff so i'm working on my database at all times. I have found the world tree very useful. And yes there are lots of people with the info out there.. and out there WRONG. Unfortunately there are a lot that i've found who aren't real receptive to me telling them they have the information incorrect. So like Lanita, I figure if it is there, it may as well be RIGHT :) I've also felt really good to have compliments on the fact that the work I have on there isnt just downloaded from other people's files, but is stuff i've worked hard and researched on my own. I have been lucky to have connected with some people that have given me amazing help with some of the family lines, I use that information and investigate and confirm the info that they have. or find it is wrong and let them know :) It is like putting together a puzzle... just one piece at a time. Try it.. if it is right then great.. if it is wrong.. then try again :)
Still head bangin' too ;) The families i'm working really hard on are my Robertson/Pulse/Henson connections and then on my husbands side, the Pharris/Farris line which are in the Newton Co, Neosho Area. Also the Lindley family in Mo.. but i'm not sure where they were located! aack Hiram D. Robertson Phoebe Pulse (dau of George Pulse and Molly Kinder) Lucy Ellen Robertson Doctor H. Pharris (also listed as Farris on one census and Pharris on tombstone and other census) Josephine (his wife) Georgiana Pharris -Lindley Florance Pharris Charles Pharris Clara Pharris Cecil Pharris Those are my dead ends, so those are what i'm diggin in on right now. Hello Everyone, We have already spoken numerous times about faulty spelling by earlier census workers. Of greater worry, I think, is that the census has never been rigorously inclusive. My mother tells me that at the last census, even though someone had won a contract to deliver the forms, she knows for a fact that they didn't bother to cover some of the rural communities. She went to to the Court House in Eminence and got a form and posted it in herself because she hadn't been delivered one in the Munsell Community (Shannon County). The number of households that miss being counted is probably statistically insignificant, but it sure causes problems for those of us who would like to use the information and expect it to be 'perfect'! The census in Australia is taken very seriously, and legislation requires every person to comply. I don't know about the rural areas, but certainly in the cities the forms are hand-delivered by an army of contract workers to every household, and an appointment is made to return to collect the form a few days later. And the census is taken every 5 years. But even so, one year I got a form, but the contractor never returned to collect it. My point is: you must not expect that census data is 100% reliable. All the best, Ron
Barbara - not too long ago one of the 'Items for Discussion" for the list , was Why do We do Genealogy. I believe the replies may have been saved in the archives on our WebSite, but if not, I have over two dozen that I saved for myself. We have all experienced relatives that claim to know nothing or just ignore your pleas for information, some that are downright hostile, and others that are complete jewels and ready to share whatever they can. Just hang in there, take the do-dos with tongue in cheek, and cherish the ones who help you. P.S. - I looked up do-do to be sure I spelled it right, and was tickled by the description in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. "1. Heavy flightless extinct bird. 2. One hopelessly behind the time; a stupid person." Hello List, I have been doing reseach for some years now, and have come across those in all my lines so far that I fail to understand. I thought research was as much about finding those alive in your family as those that have passed on. When I think of family passed and there lives how they had to work for even water and heat and food. You didn't do a couple hours work to pay your heat bill. You worked days to cut the wood for cooking and heat. And these families still took others in there homes and shared what they had. i'll bang my head right on with ya Lanita! It is so frustrating. I have gone through and found tons of family members in Spring Hollow Twp, Laclede Co. but I can't find THEM there. My only wonder is if it is true that Hiram was Native American... then would he have not been included in the census? It's so hard to figure out.. some of my family's i've been about to give up on and just voila! find a major break and get info I need to keep going.. then there are others (this Robertson line and my Betz line and Wonsyld line) that I can not find ANYTHING on! I think theymust have just made up their names somewhere along the line and went with it! Or the space ship theory always works too... ack! my frustration level is rising!! Why is it that I can NOT find Hiram D. Robertson on any records in Missouri??? I KNOW he was in Oregon Co, Alton Twp 1-15-1891 when his daughter Lucy married William Thomas Henson. I KNOW that Lucy Ellen was born 1873 in Missouri. According to family records she was born In Alton, Oregon Co. But I don't have anything that supports the twp and co. Just her death cert that says she was born in MO and Census records also. I know that Hiram D. Robertson married Phoebe Pulse B: 1846 MO or Indiana (most of her siblings were born in IN so probablly there. Phoebe's parents were George Pulse and Mary Polly Kinder. Her sister Barbara Ellen Pulse married Joseph Henson and lived and was buried in Laclede Co MO. So.. what that means is this (still following me??) Lucy Ellen Robertson's aunt was Barbara Pulse Henson and uncle was Joseph Henson her Husband William Thomas Hensons uncle was Joseph Henson and aunt Barbara Pulse-Henson so they shared the same aunt and uncle.. His uncle married her aunt.. anyway....I can find virtually everyone else on the census info BUT phoebe and Hiram why?? Rachell

Depends on which ones your are looking for. Some of them have been converted to databases and you can search them online. Major ones are the Ancestral File, IGI, SSDI and census records. The URL is http://www.familysearch.org/ Click on the search tab at the top of the screen.
