    3. Mike, A history of the involvement of Oregon County men in the Missouri State Guard in 1861 mentions "the John W. Hall spring", located on Section 16 Township 22 Range 3. I'm assuming that this was a spring on the John W. Hall farm. 3. Here is some more VERY interesting data pertaining to my prior post. If anybody has any history on springs, mills, or other geological or historical sites in Oregon county, I'm interested in hearing about it. I have quite a bit, but am always looking for more. Name a site and I'll share what I have. ______________________________________ Subject: Re: [MO-OREGON-HISTORY] Re: Springs and Things Date: Sun, 12 Jan 2003 19:33:06 -0600 From: "Andrew & Liz Van Camp" <evancamp@fidnet.com> To: "Mike Flannigan" <mikeflan@earthlink.net> I have three of her books...the one I mentioned, one on school houses and one on post offices. My husband's aunt's aunt is a friend of Geneva's and helped her locate and photograph the sites for her books. Got that? ;-) As you can see, the directions are not real specific, so I hope this helps at least point you in the right direction. LIZ Bates Spring One and one half mile over Wild Cat Hill east of Alton, Missouri, on Rd. 160-100 is the Bates Spring. It is now on Carson Ross (1999). Sam Smith Spring The Sam Smith Spring is a few miles upstream on the Eleven Point River from Thomasville, Missouri. At one time Mr. Smith had a grist mill, which ground corn and/or wheat, located on the north side of the spring. McDowell Cave McDowell Cave is a large, dry cave in the Irish Wilderness area. It was once used by the McDowells for a cellar because part of the cave ran under the back portion of their house. It is on Rd. 161, south from Wilderness, Missouri. 3. Good Morning My Little Web Surfers, I'm reposting these messages to the list for those of you who may have missed them on Friday. If you have trouble with registering or the login, please do the following: Make sure your web browser is set to "accept cookies". If you have registered successfully, but then can't login, close your browser, reopen and try to login once again. If you still have problems, clean out your browser's cache [instruction links below]. If that fails, increase the browser's cache size. If that fails, update your web browser. The website is back up, for the most part. We're still uploading files, so if you don't see something there today, or if a link doesn't work, just check back. I'll upload most of the CENSUS section by the weekend. We also have several new categories that will be added within the next week. EVERYONE will have to register again: http://www.oregoncountyhistory.net/ Choose "register" and go from there. The site is best viewed with Netscape 6/IE 5.5 or higher. If you have problems, PLEASE, clean out your browser cache and/or update your browser to see if this resolves the problem. If not, give me a holler. Thank you Dana and Annie for all your help! 1. [MO-OREGON-HISTORY] Lost Oregon County Couch
    2. Below is an email I received today from David Couch (reprinted with his permission). The 1880 census he refers to is for Jobe Township: William Couch 22 MO Farming KY KY Ann M. wife 18 MO Keeping House MO MO Cyntha A. dau. 1 MO MO MO I've never known of a Couch in Oregon Co. who wasn't in some way connectd to our Moses/Lindley/Simpson clan, but currently don't have this one in my FTM. Can anyone on the List help David & me figure out where this William Couch belongs? Any help greatly appreciated. Carlene Missouri Ozarks My G grandfather is William Couch.  I first found him on the 1910 census in Clay County Arkansas with my grandfather Alfred. William was listed as a an widower.  My grandfather, who passed away in 1964, did not know he had any siblings.  My research indicates otherwise.  William is also listed on the 1900 Clay County Arkansas census but they misspelled his last name as "Kouch."  I believe this is the same William Couch who is listed on the 1880 census in Oregon County Missouri. The 1880 Oregon County census listed one child Cynthia A and his wife Ann M.   The 1900 census list several children along with my grandfather who is listed as baby.  Those names are Seburn, Edward and Rufus.   All the birthdates match up.  I have been stuck here for a while.  I took the DNA test and did not match anyone.  My results are posted on the Couch web page.  Please let me know what you think.  David.
