(Mariah later married a George F. BASINGER as she appears on the 1880 Clay Co. AR census with George and 6 of her children.) Mariah's children were: William S. GAGE, John Henry GAGE, Susan Malinda GAGE, Lucinda GAGE, Ester V. GAGE, Jasper GAGE and Mary D. GAGE. I would like to find the parents of Mariah Jane WHITE- If this WHITE name sounds familiar to any White researchers on this list, I would certainly like to hear from you. THANKS!! Carolyn ALLISON

    3. Good Morning, Let me interpret this one: "S.A.G." stands for Samuel Alexander Greer BRAWLEY, s/o Neal Theophilus BRAWLEY and Julia Ann Amanda INMAN. We're trying to find S.A.G. Brawley's military records. As a VERY young man, he served in Fristoe's Regt., but probably under an alias. S.A.G. talked about everything else, but not his military career. I'm not familiar with enlistment requirements for the CSA. Do any of you know about age limits, or other regulations? The Union instituted a draft, but for a certain amount of money, it was legal to pay another man/boy to take ones' place in the service. Was there a comparable clause for the CSA? I've noticed while transcribing the 1890 indexes, that some of the men in Oregon County, particularly, had aliases listed. What's that all about?
