I am still searching for the parents of William Columbus Haynes who was born about 1859 in Arkansas. He married Eliza Hill in 1882 and they had one son, James Edward Willis Haynes. After Eliza died he married Martha Ann Allmon, the widow of John Barnes. He died in 1902 and is buried at Falling Spring Cemetery in Oregon County, Mo. Ona
I would also like to add, that had it not been for Betty's heads up on the surname that I was searching, I would not have had this puzzle completed. It is imperative that we try to think of others when we are interviewing our older generation... write down that familiar surname that the elder mentions... jot down some notes, and then report back to the list if you can't remember who is searching that family... you just never know what puzzle piece this might be for others. So, thanks Betty... without your heads up, I would have placed a stone at Yadkin with the "in memory of", and it would have been wrong. People wonder why we have so many roll calls??? This is why! To refresh everyone's memory, or jog some new piece of info that people might have stumbled onto... Now, how about those elusive ancestors? Let's continue sharing!! Lanita I Should have asked them BEFORE they died!
Hi, Jonathan "Ed" Whitten was married to Stella Brewer in Oregon County on December 9, 1896. Ed and Stella Whitten had at least two children: Lois Whitten, born in 1897, and Jesse Whitten, born in 1899. I believe that the family was living in Alton in 1900. I would like to get in touch with someone who descends from this family, or has an interest in this family. Thank you, Mike Landwehr
Hi List 131 years after the fact, the mystery has been solved for Lanita and all the other Marriot researchers as to the place of burial for Julia Mariott Sconce. Genealogy never ceases to amaze me!!! On Friday I visited with Dena Mariott Smith a 84 year old widow living near the Bellah Cemetery (who is just bubbling with history of her area) in an effort to try to find out how many people she knew of that were buried in Bellah Cemetery that does not have tombstones. Dena is sharp as a tack and she starts naming them off. Then all of a sudden she said "And there is Jane Mariott Sconce, I think her name was Jane, the first wife of Uncle Dan Sconce. She died way back there before 1900 and I remember my dad telling the story about the day she was to be buried." She then proceeded to tell the story which Lanita has already shared with everyone.. Folks, I must say that when Dena mentioned the name Sconce I about lost my seat as I knew this had to be one of Lanita's elusive ancestors that she has been pulling her hair out over for years. As soon as I got home I contacted Lanita and ask her about this ?Jane? Sconce, 1st wife of Uncle Dan Sconce, telling her that Dena had said she was buried at Bellah. Well folks, this is all it took! Lanita's disbelief unfolded and she writes me back and says "Well how does she know she is buried at Bellah? This is my Julia (not Jane) Mariott Sconce and I always thought she was buried at Yadkin....... I then went ahead and told Lanita the story that Dena had told and although I feel it may have have been a little difficult for her to take, I think she is now convinced that it is the best and most positive info that has probably ever gotten in re to Julia's place of burial. I stand amazed that after all of Lanita's years of research to find her answer right here in our back door. A 131 year old mystery, now truly history!! Final thought: Don't EVER give up. I am still looking for William H. LEWIS, a physician, born in 1828, married to Sarah Eliza HUDDLESTON in 1856. His will was probated in Oregon County in March of 1861, but I am not sure where or when he died. They had a son, Pembroke or Penbroke Lewis. He was 3 years old in the Oregon County 1860 census, but then totally disappears. My questions are What did William H. LEWIS die from? Where did he die? Where is he buried? What happened to Pembroke Lewis? The story gets goofier; while I am on a roll, I will continue. Ten years after William H. Lewis' death, Sarah Eliza HUDDLESTON had a son, Hayden or Haden. She gave him the LEWIS surname; so, I imagine she did not ever re-marry. Of course, we would love to know the father of Hayden, who was my husband's grandfather. James Middleton SMITH, b abt 1809 in Walker County, GA, d 8 DEC 1877 in Randolph County, AR. His wife was Susan WALLEN, b abt 1809 in Lee County, VA, d 1860/1863 in Randolph Co, AR. D. L. (Doctor Lynier) Brewer probably married Eliza A. E. Betts in 1867 or 1868. Both D. L. Brewer's parents and Eliza Betts' mother were in Oregon County in 1860 and 1870 (living near the present site of Myrtle). But the marriage of D. L. Brewer and Eliza Betts does not appear in the marriage records of either Oregon County or Randolph County, Arkansas. And D. L. and Eliza (Betts) Brewer do not appear in the 1870 census of Oregon County. Would like to determine where this couple was married, and where they were living in 1870. Mike Landwehr
