    1. Re: My Cox Family
    2. Chris Wyly
    3. My Cox info for Max, Pat, and anyone else interested: I am descended from John Monroe Cox. He was born in Salem, Dent County MO 4-18-1858. In 1880 he married Blanche Elizabeth Lemons in Texas County MO. He moved to Oregon County and farmed there for a few years. He was elected as a representative to the Missouri legislature in 1897 and served two terms. He then went into the mercantile business in Koshkonong (I think). He then went into the newspaper business in 1906. His daughter Myrtle Cox Wright and her husband ran the newspaper (the Oregon County Leader) in Koshkonong for some time. He moved to Wildorado, TX here in the Texas Panhandle in 1909 to start a newspaper but did not like it here so he moved to Megargel, TX and settled there for the rest of his life. He was editor and publisher of the Megargel Enterprise. His son, Grover Cleveland Cox and several other of his children settled in the Megargel area. Some of them settled in Henrietta, Seymour, Wichita Falls, and Dallas. One of his great nephews lives in Arlington still. I believe some of the modern day newspaper Cox's in Texas are some of my distant cousins. John Monroe Cox died in Megargel, TX in 1911. I have been to his grave there. His son Grover Cleveland Cox who was my great grandfather returned with his family to Oregon County in about 1920 or so. He is buried in the Koshkonong Cemetery on Hwy 63 in Oregon County. My grandmother (Grover's daughter) Billie Cloe Cox Rogers was raised in Kosh and married James Franklin Rogers from Couch, Oregon County, MO. That's part of the story, mostly from memory. I can dig out dates, etc. and more info if any of this sounds interesting or familiar. 1. Divorce Index
    2. Lanita Sconce Smith
    3. Now, for you folks who just tuned in, or forgot... Nancy posted this index on the website in July. She did this while I was gone on one of my many vacations and had unsubscribed to the list while I was gone... and the dummy that I am, I forgot to check the archives when I resubbed... so, my apologies to all for not being as on top of this as I THOUGHT I was... here is her message she sent in July: I just uploaded index to files referenced above including a link for requesting further information. Please make requests via website only. Any requests made to mailing list will not be answered. Respecting these restrictions - enjoy! http://www.oregoncountyhistory.net/divorces/index.php Now, if you haven't checked the website lately, let me just tell you that Nancy, although quiet on the mailing list, does a TON of work on the website behind the scenes, putting out the financial means to get this info for us.., adding more and more new things. Take advantage of her hard work. If you want a lookup, please do as she suggested. There are reasons for it, and I obviously had a senior moment when I posted the info on the mailing list. [Sorry, 'bout that!!] If you can't remember your username or password, PLEASE do NOT send us a ton of emails saying you can't get on.. just make up another username and password!!! If you have sent a request please send to me privately at [email protected] Thanks! Lanita Sconce Smith I looked at my family tree...there were two dogs using it

I wonder if this Laxton couple may be linked in some way to my Moore, Haws (Haus) and Marler (Marlow) families. Joe and Lucinda (Haws) Moore's daughter Mora Mona Moore (born Feb. 7, 1894 in Couch or possibly Jobe, MO) married William Ansel Laxton (born Feb. 20, 1891, Poteau, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory) on March 6, 1915 in Tulsa.
