    3. I belong to a couple of family associations and find it very worthwhile. The archives for the family are all housed in one place, and members can access them. They have a website; they publish a quarterly newsletter; they have an annual meeting; and they subsidize DNA testing for association members. As an association member, you also have a LARGE group of seasoned researchers to help you knock down those brick walls. I get all this for $20.00 a year. All that was required of me was to send a group sheet of my line along with my annual dues. The newsletters are wonderful, listing the lines of any new association members, obituaries for any of the surname who have died, and discussing any new research that has gone on, DNA studies, etc! All this stuff costs money, so I'm glad to pay my dues. As I said, I find it is well worth it. My husband is descended from the particular family in question. I have alot of info on the family particularly locally, and can get tombstone pics easily [locally],, but before I can get additional info that goes way back with documentation, one of the leaders of the family association has said that they cannot share even the remote bit of info unless we become members of the association, and thereby pay dues [annually]... Only THEN can they and will they share info, if we share in return.... This sticks in my craw, I'm offended by it all... but I'm beginning to feel like maybe, I'm just being cheap, or stubborn, or just don't want to be told what I can do and what I can't do.... a couple of people have shared info with me, but they are scared that others will find out that they have shared 'prized' info with non-members... Am I being illogical? I need all of your thoughts!! Please post to the list. Lanita ==== MO-OREGON-HISTORY Mailing List ==== http://www.oregoncountyhistory.net/

    3. Lanita, Actually I've encountered two of these so far - and like you say they won't give you anything until you JOIN their society. These two I've basically have ignored and went on with my own research. A bit upset or peeved at first - but have talked to others who have since joined and they have now come to me seeking information and seen my sites - saying that I have more than the organization do and just as resourced. But to be fair to these organization, I met a man in charge of another one, and he was wanting information from me to put in his society. I gladly reciporcated. And he even did fill in a couple of blanks after that and wrote a very nice thank you letter. *By the way I just found another family of mine (some Jobe descendants - remember I trace them all especially from Andrew Jr) - so if any of you are researching ODLE in Shannon Co., MO - please drop me a line. Thanks, Ann (Jobe) Brown [email protected]

Sorry for being so late ..... I've been in hospital the last 10 days with a pesky broken foot (now on the mend), and have got back to my PC at home to find nearly 800 messages to plough through! Sombody else has mentioned the Roush family in the area. The name Davis Roush rings all sorts of bells ..... I don't recall him being a teacher, but a county official or perhaps school board member? Wish I had all those EHS annuals Mom collected over the years. All the best, Ron

    2. Yes, as I understand, we are kin back about three generations, there were two brothers that came to the area. I think his line is from the other brother than our line. I didn't know about him or that he was a doctor. Maybe, I can write to him and compare notes. I do hope he is interested in genealogy. Do you know any more about him such as who his parents were? I have also heard about a David Roush in the area down there that was or is a teacher. Have you heard of him? Thanks for the information, Toni Roush
