    1. [MO-OREGON-HISTORY] WHO WAS MARY DAVIS article
    2. Lanita Sconce Smith
    3. I just received my OCGS newsletter and was interested in the article WHO WAS MARY DAVIS. Since 2 of the Mary DAVIS mentioned I am well aware of, and who they were proven by resources and direct family members, I am sending this to the list in hopes that someone on the list can pass it on to the society for next issue. 1. Mary DAVIS, who mar. Littleton Horace DAVIS and is buried at New Salem Cem., was Mary Ann DUBOISE, dau. of Elias H. DUBOISE and his wife, Rebecca. She was born 1820 in Tennessee, and Mary Ann was married to Thomas Hill, and had the Mary Ann Rebecca HILL, who mar. Lorenzo D. 'Rance" DAVIS, son of Littleton Horace DAVIS and his 1st wife, Jemima [Mina] MADDOX [who is also buried at New Salem]. After Thomas HILL's death, Mary Ann [the mother] married James HOWERTON on 3 May 1859 in Oregon Co. After his death Mary DUBOISE HILL HOWERTON, married Littleton Horace DAVIS. 2. Mary Ann Rebecca HILL DAVIS, was indeed the dau of Thomas and Mary A. DUBOISE HILL, and married Lorenzo D. 'Rance" DAVIS, 3rd son of Littleton Horace DAVIS and Jemima [Mina] MADDOX. Littleton Horace DAVIS was my 3great grandfather, and I have researched his DAVIS lines extensively. All of this information is in the Welcome K. BENNETT book which I previously donated to the OCGS a few years ago. It contains several documentation articles which should have cleared this confusion up. [Welcome K. BENNETT had a son, James, who mar. Littleton H. DAVIS's dau, Ladora Olive [Ollie] DAVIS, by L.H.'s 1st wife]. As for the 3rd Mary Davis, I am unfamiliar with her, as her husb. Eliphas, is not of my line. oh yes, the minors mentioned in the Estate of Mary Davis, wife of L.H., were: Littleton Horace Jr.[sometimes referred to Horace Littleton], Lorenzo Dow [Rance], and James F. DAVIS who were the children, of course. Rance was very prominent in the county and has an obit on file. Would someone please pass this along so that the clarification can be made in the next issue? For further info or questions, let me know! Lanita Sconce Smith

    3. Lanita, maybe Gunden is a misspelling. There is a Gurdon, AR just off of Interstate 30 about half way between Texarkana and Little Rock. And... it has a railroad that runs through it. 1. [MO-OREGON-HISTORY] McCAMMON-BLEDSOE Marriage Look-up
    2. MICHELLE ROUX
    3. Lanita, Thanks for your generous offer. I am looking for a marriage listing for James McCAMMON and Mary BLEDSOE. Common variant spelling include: McCAMERON & McCAMRON, BLEDSAW & BLEDSALL. I believe the marriage took place about 1854, although this could have been in Howell or Oregon County. The 1850 census has James living with his first wife, Triphena, in Oregon County. The 1860 census has James living in Howell County with Mary. Thanks again! I found it a under $9 with shipping of $5 on another books site. So, it is out there for the buying if you want it. If you want it printed, there was one that would do a print on demand for about $40 in hard back and $17 for paper back. I think I am going to check the local library or library loan before I spend money on it. Pat, Claudette Hackworth <chackworth@fcb-online.com> wrote: I really have no idea, but it is possible. The library could not tell me how old Book I is or when it was produced. I found this irritating since the newspaper article lead one to believe that they would be knowledgeable and helpful. They also said that one had to appear at the library to purchase, and that leaves the "out of state people" out of the loop. 1. [MO-OREGON-HISTORY] rare and out of print books with (Randolph) county information
    2. Judy McGinnis
    3. A good way to find out what types of books are available for different counties is to search for the county on barnesandnoble.com. They take orders for rare and out of print books as the middleman for smaller booksellers around the country. (No, I don't have stock in Barnes & Noble! Amazon and others probably can get these too.) Some are probably available at your local library or online "free" with a premium Ancestry or genealogy.com subscription. Without doing this I would never have guessed that there was an Arkansas swamp land index! They list a number of items for Randolph County, AR: Index to the Arkansas General Land Office, 1820-1907 (covers several counties) Arkansas Land Patents: Randolph County (granted through 30 June 1908). This one is not currently available. Randolph County, AR Marriages, 1821-1893 and 1893-1923 1890 Randolph County Census, Reconstructed from the Personal Property Tax List Arkansas State Donation and Swamp Lands, Lawrence, Randolph and Sharp Counties Death Notices in Pocahontas, Arkansas Newspapers 1873-1910 Historical and Genealogical Abstracts from Randolph County, Newspaper of the 1800s, and others from 1903-1918 (most years).
