I have been able to add more accounts and graphics to the webpage on Benton Barracks. Now I have some unique perspectives as well as 1875 illustrated images of the Fairgrounds park area. One passage comes from an 1863 account of F.F. Kiner, 14th Iowa Infantry. Also much more on the conditions of the Colored Troops, freedmen (or refugee slaves) living at the camp. The American Memory website gave me images which I converted to gif files, then merged into larger images. Many of the roads have changed names so it has taken some detective work in identifying in understanding the boundaries of Camp Benton. (I have also added a link to wonderful Pictorial St. Louis map at the Library of Congress.) Benton Barracks (alias Camp Benton, St. Louis, Missouri) http://www.missouricivilwarmuseum.org/benton.htm As always, if you have any additional information we are anxious for more.
