Hagerstown, Md. -- The Civil War movie Gods and Generals won't include scenes of the Battle of Antietam, the war's bloodiest one-day clash, director Ronald Maxwell says. Those scenes, shot in 2001, were cut to bring the film's running time to three hours and 35 minutes, maxwell told an audience in Shepherdstown, W.Va., last week. Gods and Generals, a prequel to Maxwell's 1993 epic, Gettysburg, stars Jeff Daniels, Robert Duvall and Chris Conner. Maxwell said the Antietam battle, fought near Sharpsburg, Md., in 1862, will be included in a six-hour DVD version of the film. AP Desoto Joe/The Record Man
