Hello. I'm a college grad student in Washington, DC. Recently, I have been doing some personal family research at the Archives, and realized that I could be doing this for people at a much quicker pace than the people at the Archives. Generally, a request received by the Archives takes several months, at a minimum, to be processed. So, being that grad school is expensive and I could use a little bit of help to pay some student loans, I am offering to do military research (service files, pension files, etc) at the Archives. The fee that I would be asking for would be reasonable, so as to compensate my time, printing costs and postage for what I will send you. If you are interested, please just email me at texlabooks@gmail.com Take care. Kelley
Kelley, I applaud your willingness to assist people in our family history, as you said, it could take months for someone to respond to a request that we pay for, I would rather pay someone and have results in as little as a few weeks! I have my 3rd great grandfather and others that I am in need of military records, if your prices are reasonable, I will be looking you up. Good Luck in you furthering your education! JHS, The 27th Missouri Infantry was in the same 1st Brigade, 1st Division, 15th Army Corps, Army of the Tennessee as my great great Grandfather's Regiment the Consolidated Battalion of the 31st Missouri Infantry and 32nd Missouri Infantry Regiments. I have written a book about my ancestor's regiment and in it I have quoted references by men who describe on the way to Columbia they were involved in skirmishing with Confederate Cavalry on the date in question. Here are some of the quotes relating to that day. "Tuesday Feb 14, Batt marched at 7 a.m. moved about 8 miles & camped. Some rain. Battalion was in the advance, skirmished with the enemy. Rebels fell back. Losses not known." LT. William Lynch The Battalion had the lead of the Brigade who was leading the Division. So he may have been wounded in one of these skirmishes. He may have been wounded on Wednesday February 15th. The 1st Division 15th Army Corps attacked the Confederate defensive works on the Congaree River on Feb 15th, The 1st Brigade was in the rear of the 1st Division so they were not in the early fight. When the Confederates fell back to their main line of defensive works the 1st Brigade assumed position on the extreme left. They then charged the Cofederate works and after a fight took position of the works. I do not mention much of this fight because the Consolidated Battalion of the 31st Missouri Infantry and 32nd Missouri Infantry had guard dutyu on the Division train that day. So it is likely that your ancestor was wounded at this point. Gary L. Scheel

I am new at this and hope someone can help me to find more info. on a grandfather named Henry William French, a private in Capt. Rufus M. Hooker's Company of the 8th Regiment of Cavalry volunteers of the State of Illinois. He joined at Woodstock, Ill. and was mustered in at St. Charles, Ill on Sept. 18, 1861. He was discharged in 1862 due to severe rheumatism. He later married but I don't have a name and they had three children, Will, Frank and Lucy. Can anyone help me? They lived in the Bolckow, Mo. area.
Hello: Mo CW I have some ancestors on My Grandfather's side that were were in the Cival War and I have not been able to locate. William Lafayette Crane Sr. born in New York 1773--located in Missouri 1830's in Richwood TWSP Miller County Missouri. Last will and tes.(of Sr) made in Houston Missouri Texas County Missouri Nov 8 1868. This is a man born 1773. ? Same person? "Died trying to return home from Southern States"-- "Disappeared when Price Raid through Central Missouri" (another statement by Judge Clyde Lee Jenkins publisher of 3 history of Miller County Missouri History Books). The SR William L. was Married to Rachel Hensley and had following children: George Washington Crane b 1841//William Lafayette Crane Jr b1842// Rebecca Ann Crane b1843//John Crane b1844//Brumley Henry Crane b1849//Mary Melissa b1851//Jeremiah M Crane b1859. We have info that --George Washington Crane --William Lafayette Crane Jr--John Crane--Brumley Henry (Buck)served in the C W . All in Union Army" Not sure of the rest of family service. Info We have William Lafayette Crane Jr. "Disappeared never to be seen again nor could He be found by His Comrades." Beleived to be killed by persons unknown the day following His discharge from the Union Army --He received His final bonus at an encampment situated in the state of Arkansas. (No idea where that was) His wife Sarah Ann Hensley re-married in 1867. Some dates conflict but the stories seem to be the same. When was Price's Raid in Missouri? Notice the age of William L Crane Sr. --when Last will made in Houston Missouri (95)? "Trying to get back home from the southern states." Also William L Sr. married to Rachael Jane Hensley and then William L Jr. married to Sarah Ann Hensley. (Related?) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? The South Central Missouri - North Central Arkansas Civil War Roundtable starts the New Year with a very special meeting this weekend. On Saturday, January 21, 2006, our group will meet from 2:00 to 4:00 PM in the Community Room of First Simmons Bank, Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, with author Rose Mary Lankford. Rose Mary will present a program about her book, "The Encyclopedia of Quantrill's Guerillas." In over 400 pages listing some 1100 persons associated with the man, Mrs. Lankford has compiled the most complete listing to date of the men who rode with Quantrill during the Civil War. Her book focuses upon the lives of these men, their families, personal characteristics and vital statistics. The book also lists battles and skirmishes in which they participated. She includes research on Quantrill's men before, during and after the War. Her book includes documentation of how both governments treated these men through their policies and General Orders. Rose Mary Lankford is also author of "The History of Evening Shade, the Place and Its People," and will have copies of both of these books for sale at the meeting. As always, you are invited to spend as much or as little time with us as your schedule permits. This is an informal meeting. If your interest is genealogy, historical research, artifact hunting or the Civil War in any part of the United States you will want to attend our meetings this year.
