    3. This is a test of the Rootsweb lists I am on. It is also some information for the list administrator if they feel the list is not running as expected. And finally it is an attempt to get something posted to the list so Rootsweb does not turn the list off. The list admin should probably go to this page: http://home.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ and try to set up a new mailman login, if not already done. If you do that you will probably get to this page eventually: https://mailinglists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/lists/setupmail Then you might want to sign up for this list: https://mailinglists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/listindexes/search/Listowners But be warned, you will receive postings from that list almost every day.  May 8 a day at times. Another option that I do not encourage is to turn the list over to me - at least temporarily.  Again, I do not want that done if you are willing to keep the list. Mike Flannigan

Author: burlbrooks6972 Surnames: Mullings, Evans, Wilson, White, Robe Classification: lookup Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.cemetery.us.mocempres/23/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Mullings Family Cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in Missouri. It is the final resting place for two Civil War veterans, and one War of 1812 Veteran. Interred here are some of Missouri's first settlers, some coming in as early as 1818. This long disused, and almost forgotten cemetery is in desperate need of repairs. The stones are broken and scattered, the trees need cut back, it needs fenced to protect it, and it needs grass sown. This is going to take a lot of work and volunteers to get this off of the ground. We are working closely with the property owners, who are not only excited, but ecstatic to help us with this restoration project. So, please, help us to restore the dignity and respect to these folks who paved the way for you and I. http://www.gofundme.com/odgz9k Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. One for Thomas Scanlon, the other for Mary Elizabeth Digenan. Is there anyone who lives nearby who could read these stones? Thomas' has a bunch of writing at the base that can't be read online. Mary Elizabeth Digenan can be read except for the date. Would be very appreciative of the information and would pay it forward... I believe Thomas Scanlon to be the first priest for St. Joseph's Catholic church. He held the first service in Joseph Robidoux's trading center. I'm working to find the farmer to the north or south to get in there, we can get right to it with equipment then. It really needs to have Tordon RTU sprayed all over to kill the underbrush and vines. Right now its probably almost impossible to get into. Early this spring, early April, it was really easy to see where the stones were, all the vines and brush was bare, I did do some cleaning then. I'll work to get a day together this fall. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Great work Tim! I'm sorry the link I had posted with pictures went defunct. That was posted when I was new to all this and did not know about Find a Grave. Tim, if you want to get some folks together for a clean up this year, my husband, his cousin George and myself will pitch in. It is his family buried there. I just helped out. His second wife Scholastika is buried there tho. I have alot of pictures on Find-a-grave, and am working with the Catholic Church to get volunteers to help clean it up. Doesn't really matter who abandoned it, the real problem is what do we do from here. If anyone is interested contact me, Tim Wiedmaier, at timwied@yahoo.com. I've been there several times over the past 10 years, and last weekend was in contact with the Cemetery Board. Seems the Cemetery may have been a private cemetery at one time. I believe this is where "Kessler's Settlement" Church was. There used to be a highway going right along side of it, but when the newer highway to Easton was moved 1/2 mile east of the Cemetery. I cleaned it up for a couple of hours last weekend and took a bunch of pictures. I would like some people from that area to volunteer to go in periodically to cu! t down the underbrush. I'm looking into Grants and donations for the restoration of it, spray, labor, etc. I talked to the Cemetery board about building a road into it, but we have to be in contact with the farmers that surround it, as there was never an easement to it, since the original road used to go beside it. We have to help out the farmers also to gain access to it, other than walking. Thank you all for your interest, maybe together we CAN do something. I actually took some people out there today and I'm pretty sure I saw a sebastion headstone. That is a name that I wouldn't forget and I'd be happy to show you the cemetery. I live on 6-k ranch outside of Easton and IF ANYONE would like me to take you out to the cemetery I'd so happily. I cleared some brush out of there today, but it is still in really bad shape. A few years back the boy scouts cleaned the cemetery up and it looked really nice. However, I've heard they wern't allowed to come back because they took down some fence of neighboring property. Anyway feel free to email me if you'd like to go out there. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: dapper59 Surnames: Smith, Lowery, Teague, Admire, Burton, Dickerson, Jenkins, et.al Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.cemetery.us.mocempres/19/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The Smith-Black Cemetery located in Southern Benton County, Missouri is once again in danger of being lost. A few years ago a group of concerned descendants formed a committee that raised funds for clearing brush, weeds and other debris, installed fencing and a more permanent monument with family names which included William Boyce Smith, wife, Sarah Ann Lowery along with daughter Ellenora Smith Jenkins and family members. Other names include Admire, Dickerson, Teague, Burton. It is estimated that between 150 and 200 burials took place there from the 1850s to the last one in 1956. Albert Black was the original 1850s owner of the farm on which the cemetery was located. Then the county rerouted the road isolating the cemetery resulting in a forlorn, neglected cemetery. Once the committe was formed funds were solicited from descendants to pay for regular grass cutting, etc however now the money is running very low so funding is needed. If anyone knows they have ancestors buried there and are willing to help please respond. The necessary legal papers were drawn up and are on file for the incorporation of said committee and the funding. My family tree is "Captain George Sterling Smith" so you can contact me through the message segment. Thank you Velma Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
