    2. I think we should find the cemetaries, look at the condition and then, if necessary, ask for contributions for expenses only. I personally help keep our cemetary clean and the cost for gas, etc, is at my expense. The magic of finding a cemetary is payment enough for me.

I was only worried about expenses mounting up for planting new shrubs and plants, benches, arbours, fencing & etc. And some of that could be donated. If we are able to get help form Scouts, Masons, etc., those are all well known non-profit service organisation and any individual or business donating "stuff" or money can write off that donation. BTW, I'm also an heirloom plant nut and my husband and I are also metal detectorists. I want to stress that we *NEVER EVER* detect cemeteries. That is Holy Ground as far as we are concerned, and treating it disrespectuflly is inviitng very bad Karma...Noooo....Only old homesteads, churches, etc. When we find sites we want to detect, we write a letter to the land owner asking for permission. I sometimes find heirloom varieites of roses, peonies and etc. and I *NEVER* dig them uless the landowner has given permission. The gist of this ramble is that if we decided to do some landscaping as part of the spruce up - we might find stuff right there on the cemetery site that just needs to be pruned and divided. We can also get conservation bundles of native trees from the conservation department for next to nothing - $5/bundle - redbuds, dogwoods, hawthornes, oaks, cedars, pines, lilacs, etc etc. Come to think of it, hedging has been used in Europe for centuries as a substitute for fencing. A beautiful lilac and hawthorne hedge around the cemetery - with gateposts and a gate, might serve just as well, depending on the location, of course. 3. The natural fencing will also make the cemetery not as noticible for those who would vandalize the stones! I love this idea.
