Actually this applies to all areas. If you have the Obit, it usually lists the Funeral Home. However, back in 1921 the funeral may have been handled out of the residence of the deceased. I would check: 1. The Yellow Pages for Funeral Homes within a 25 mile radius of Dexter, MO as they exist today. Ask them if they may have been in business at the time. If not did they buy out a previous owner. 2. Check with the Dexter Library, see if they might have business directories for the era of interest. Undertakers during the 20's were frequently associated with Livery Stables and/or Furniture Stores/Builders. 3. Contact the County Clerk for Stoddard Co., they may expend a bit more effort on your behalf. Make sure you include copies of both your news article and the rejection letter from Jefferson City. 4. Contact the State Licensing Office for Funeral Homes in Jefferson City, they may be able to shed some light on the businesses in the area. 5. Check with the Cemetery, they may have the information in their original ledgers. 6. Check with the local church that handled the funeral.
