    3. Many Confederate Vets. were at the Confederate Old Soldiers Home at Higginsville, we too have someone buried there- There would not have been a Confederate Old Soldiers Home in 1864- which was the date in question as to a burial place. Below was taken from a website dealing with Higginsville. The Missouri State Archives maintains the Higginsville records now. THE CONFEDERATE CEMETERY. A graveyard where soldiers of the Confederate Home and their wives are buried. A few other Confederate Soldiers (such as Quantrill) are buried here as well. The Confederate Cemetery is adjacent to the Confederate Chapel In June 1893, the Confederate Home was formally dedicated Construction of its buildings had begun in 1891 on 365 acres located one mile north of Higginsville and purchased from Grove Young for $18,000The Home was to house those Confederate veterans who were Less fortunate The Chapel was built in 1892 with funds contributed by the ladies of Lafayette County. A hospital was built in 1895. Financing the Home became more and more difficult, until the State of Missouri took over its operation and property in 1897 ----- Original Message ----- From: "marilyn orr" <maagn23@hcis.net> To: <MO-CEMETERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, May 17, 2001 12:46 PM Subject: Re: [MO-CEM] confederate soldier's grave? > There is also a confederate soldiers cemetery in Hihhinsville, Lafayette Co, > MO.
