Hi Listers, A great tool to find locations in any state is the USGNIS a government mapping service found at: http://geonames.usgs.gov/gnisform.html You can put in the name of a land feature such as Wilson, choose Mo. from drop down list, choose cemetery from next drop down list and then Send Query. The search will come up with all the Wilson cemeteries in Mo. ( I found 15). Then you click on the individual ones say in Camden County. Another page comes up that will give information, then near the bottom of the list is "Show Feature Location". Click on that and you will get a map of the area that contains the feature and you can zoom in and out to locate the bigger towns etc. Also, something about mailing lists that I did not know when I started my searches a year ago. You subscribe to a "list mode" and you receive individual messages with their own subjects and those using IE with preview pane open see the message when it is chosen. The subject isn't too important if ever noticed. But those of us that get "digest mode" will receive one email every so often with a list of "subjects" as an attachment. All we see is the subject. Now if we know we are not interested, and can't help the person that started that "subject" we tend to skip it the next time it appears. Shouldn't say we, I tend to. But if the message has nothing to do with the "subject" I will miss a new topic which I might be interested in or could help with. So it is to everyone's advantage to put in their own subject line whenever they send a message. I am not sure about any other program but my set up gives me a link to the list in every message I read. If you click on that instead of "Reply" you get a new message form that forces you to fill in the subject. I don't mean to preach---only share information I have learned and to help others. Barb
I have been looking for a long time for the Missouri city of NEW WELLS. With the GNIS mapping, I found that it must be very close to Cape Girardeau, MO. Does anyone know where this is? Is there a cemetery in this city? Is it now part of Cape Girardeau? Does anyone live in that city who could write to me? vlchas@midwest.net Thank you! Velda Moore
Try calling your local library. They sometimes can pinpoint these places for you. They did for me at my local library. Might want to give it a try. Barb, I have put off writing this note to you, but I feel I must. As you tell us below, some people are still using IE with preview pane open. I have been told that when you do this, you are leaving yourself open to a virus. I was told to turn off the preview pane to avoid getting a virus.
