Hello, I am new to this list. I have many ancestors and relatives who have lived and died and are buried in Shelby Co. I hope that there is someone on the list who lives in Shelby Co. and would be willing to take some pictures of graves for me at King Cedar Grove Cem., Bethel, MO. My great grandparents George Hotchkiss Van Osdol and his wife Catherine Vawter Van Osdol are buried there and many others of my family. Also does someone have a book on the cems of the county and who is buried in them. If there is such a book is it possible that I could get a copy of it? I can list people who I think that are buried in the county someplace but need someone who can look them up for me. I have dates and places to go with the most of the names. Hope that there is someone who can help me. Glad to pay for time and trouble. Like pictures send to me in e-mails if possible. Saves everyone time and trouble. Thanks, Glee Vab Osdol Krapf
Glee, You might want to check out the Shelby County GenWeb site at the link listed below: http://www.rootsweb.com/~moshelby/index.htm It has a lot of information that might be of help to you if you take the time to sort through everything. There are cemetery indexes listed there in MS Excel format, although I didn't find any for the King/Cedar cemetery itself. There is an index for three separate cemeteries listed in Bethel Township, and I found the below listed Van Osdol names listed there under the index for the Pleasant Prairie Cemetery in Bethel Township. Don't know if these are family members or not, but suspect that they might be because of the unusual surname. VON OSDOL, Mary Elizabeth Born: 1871 Died: 1954 VON OSDOL, Mary Matilda Born: 10/14/1892 Died: 04/03/1948 VON OSDOL, James M Born: 03/09/1870 Died: ???? VON OSDOL, Ruby Born: 1909 Died: 19?? VON OSDOL, Scott Born: 1874 Died: 1960 VON OSDOL, Snoda Born: 1908 Died: 19?? Also, found the following description of the King/Cedar Cemetery, listing it's location and some description as to the general upkeep of the place. King a/k/a Cedar Taylor From the records of the Shelby County Historical Society (apprx. 1971)...Located 3 1/2 miles north and 1 1/4 miles west of Epworth. Fenced, stones in good shape, maintained and good records kept, but has not always been that way. A few unmarked graves. Don't know if this is of much help to you but I would suggest that you check it out. There are also some volunteers listed on the site who might be willing to get the pictures of the graves that you mentioned in your message. Good luck in your further research.
