There was a newspaper article talking about Dalton Cemetery being bulldozed and I answered with his response. I hope this guy who destroyed (Dalton Cemetery) gets in big trouble. Old Self Chapel Cemetery has also been destroyed by the man that owned the land a few years back. There were more than fifty stones there at one time. Bill Williams found only 26 names on stones when he went in 1994. When I visited there around 2000 there was one baby stone standing and a couple others where visible. The owner of the property threw the stones in a ditch. At one time a Methodist Church stood at this site. My Great great great grandparents are buried there along with a great great Aunt and others. Lewis Jones was the ancestor of a lot of Jones family from Versailles and Morgan County. There were also Hughes, Washington, White, Harmon, Johnson, Kindrick, Painter, Self, Lees, Houchens and others. A message needs to be sent to those who would desecrate the graves of our pioneers. A very common story. I have witnessed a bunch of losers like this; but also have seen a couple of winners. There are still a few people with a conscience bigger than their pocketbook. Bonnie. You I and others need to make for feelings known to the Benton county judge about this wanton destruction. It is a felony in Missouri but the last account I saw , he has been charge with 3 misdemeanors charges and that is subject to the judge how much to level. The state attorney general needs to let the public know there is muscle in the law but it won't happen without letters of outrage. Bud. P.S. anyone wanting to know more I have clippings about.
