The cemetery is now called the Turnbough Cemetery. If someone lives in the area I would appreciate a photo of all the headstones in the cemetery. Listed below is a note I have that I am following up. I wish I knew all this 2 years ago when I was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo about 75 miles from the cemetery. "His family was living on a a farm near Davisville at the time of his death. 2 children died while he was in the service and Louisa buried them down the hill from the house where she was living. That was the start of the Mason cemetery, later renamed the Turnbough cemetery." Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. In the past forty years I have been desperately working to preserve a small cemetery in St. Louis off of Old Big Bend Road. It was established in 1866 and is one of five slave burial grounds in Missouri. I included a lot of important photos, research and documentation in my book "Gone, but not Forgotten." I have recently put together another book about this cemetery called "A Grave Undertaking." If you would like to purchase a book(s) all the proceeds go back to Quinette Cemetery and its preservation. Each book costs $16.95 (plus $2.00 postage). You can mail me at 1269 Avery Ct, Kirkwood, MO 63122. I will also be teaching a class at Meramec Community College on October 20, 2007 about cemetery preservation. There will be a lecture from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and fieldwork from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Each class costs $8.00 and you can register online at www.stlcc.edu or you can contact me for a registration form. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Orlena39 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.cemetery.us.mo/1788/mb.ashx Message Board Post: To: Bev Rampey, Jackie OGuin, Beverly Weldon, and others that feel I've been able to help you, my THANKS! to you all. It is my pleasure to be able to help others, and I sincerely tried to do my best. I'm not perfect, and I seem to have trouble giving just the pertinent information. I'm usually trying to help someone who may not be an experienced genealogist. I'm looking up information as I go, in most cases, I don't already have it, and I err on trying to give related info where they may find more also. I certainly don't intend to insult anyone who is an experienced genealogist. I've tried to help not only via the Message Boards and Mailing Lists, but by private emails. When they contacted me privately for help, even people who I knew had problems with me personally, were answered as well as I was able, and with no hesitation. I don't appreciate not being able to help without watching every word I write, and being referred to as "that's just Orlena". I originally subscribed to the mailing lists because of my Internet friendship with Ann Bush, who is no longer with us, and she is very much missed. I unsubscribed from the MO and then the KS Cemetery lists. I will continue to check in on both the Message Boards and the Mailing List Archives from time to time. If I find I can help someone, I'll answer via the Message Boards. If you think I may be able to help you, my email addresses are available and are NOT blocked. There is a problem with the Message Boards at the present time, answers to queries are disappearing. I do not believe the Board Administrators are deleting all of them. I'm in the process of trying to convince the site that there is a problem they are unaware of. I even had an original post in answer to the problem disappear from the MO CEM Board. I'm hoping this one doesn't disappear also. In fact, I intend to save this post, so I'll be able to show what I posted if it also disappears. THANK YOU AGAIN! YOU REALLY DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH I APPRECIATE YOUR THANKS! GOD BLESS YOU ONE & ALL! Orlena ~~~~~~ Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The above query was moved to Maries County MO. where it does NOT belong. http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.maries/mb.ashx It should be moved back, or to Macon County MO. Maries County doesn't have a Mount Taber/Tabor Cemetery. I assume it was moved there because it does have a town named Vienna. I don't understand why this was moved from the MO Cemetery Board. I am looking for Wolford`s buried in Texas Ct and surrounding Counties in Missouri, Thank you.
Good Morning, I recently discovered that my great-great-grandmother, Elvira (Moke) Adams, is buried in the Cartersville Cemetery in Jasper County, MO near Webb City. Would anyone living near there consider taking a photo of her grave for me? Thanks a bunch! Sharon
I don't know for sure, but you might want to check this site... http://www.mcmsys.com/~brammer/ourbest.htm There is a reference to the Mt. Taber Cemetery in Economy, MO about half way down the page. I didn't find anything else about this cemetery though. You might write to the Macon County. The address for their web site is http://www.rootsweb.com/~momacon/. Also, this is an email address for a person that listed cemeteries for Macon County, Mt. Tabor, among them... mcmoore@istlaplata.net. Good Luck. E.D.
