Does anyone know the out come of the trail that was to take place in December in Potosi over the land owner not letting people visit a family cemetery? I haven't heard anything on this. Dave Sleuth@cat2.com
Hi: I sent out some requests to date to some of my deaf friends. I have asked them to post his name in their Ozarks newsletter for the Deaf. One of my friends is head of deaf ministries at Assembly of God Headquarter here.. It would help me to know what his/her occupation was. I assume their children were hearing. Do you know if they had a telephone? If they did I can find them in the phone book.. do you know if they signed and if so what language did they sign. At that time most signed American or Pig. Do you know if they belonged to a church? Before accessibility laws deaf adults worked in laundrey, shoe repair, shoe shine and dish washing in Springfield.. ----- Original Message ----- From: Maureen Patt To: MO-CEMETERIES-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, January 31, 2001 7:34 PM Subject: Re: [MO-CEM] Jenkins Hi, Becky asked several good questions. The following statutes are found on this web site: http://www.moga.state.mo.us/ I went to Google and put in "Missouri Cemetery Law" and got a page of results. These 3 sounded the most applicable. I would contact newspapers and television stations about this person's plans. Maybe the bad publicity will make her change her mind. The laws are not strong enough, but maybe will be of some help. Eleanor, I know that if a cemetery is on private property that the owner can't keep you out. You may have to have the sheriff go out with you to the property. I don't see how that lady can destroy the graves on her property. Although I know of two incidents where it was done but I believe it was because no one persued it. The woman sounds like she needs Jesus in her heart. It wouldn't cost nothing to call a lawyer and ask what the law is on graves on private property. Wishing you the best. Fred D. Can't speak for Missouri, but here in Oklahoma I believe it is against the law to deprive anyone of access to a family burial site, regardless the location. I would think it would be the same in most places. Dave -B <> DL-B <>
