Need help finding Charles Albert DeVoe, shoud be buried KC. MO. Would like to know where he is buried, when did he die, and any info from an obit showing children. Any help would be great. Thank you, Duane
At 89 years and living in Northern VA I certainly can't work in a cemetery. But I can contribute a little money , say $!0. Would someone please send me the email address for BILL in DUNCAN, OK. I have been trying to find a live person there. Alice
I am very interested in reading all the posted messages to this site, however, I am not interested in scrolling thru all the re-runs for every former message. Is there any way this can be avoided? Virginia
> If the scouts do the cleanup who funds the project moneywise? We might ask for funding from historical socieites, GenWeb, Roots Web, Family Tree Maker, city or county tourism funds sometimes make grants, local landscapers or harware stores might lend tools or equipment..... Maybe we ought to also be trying to come up with a dollar figure....Of course, that's gonn be hard to get until we can get a stie chosen and get a look at it - I think..... Kathleen
I think it should stay here as a sub-list or a chat area, rather than moving to another site. Let's not duplicate. I too am worried about the number of unsubscribes since we started this discussion. I have found a site where we can start an email list just for this discussion, then maybe we won't disturb the others who are not interested. Any ideas, I will sign us up and get it started if you all think it is a good idea. Vicki, It depends on the nature of the service project. If it is an Eagle Scout service project the Boy who makes it his project works on fundraising as a part of his project, by holding spahgetti dinners and such or by seeking donations of materials, money or expertise from businesses and private individuals. This must all be listed in the final project paperwork when he turns it in. If a troop is doing it as a unit service project then for something of this size they might work with another group such as their troops chartering organization, or a local historical society or genealogy club, even a garden club to raise the necessary funds and do the work thus sharing the burden of costs and possibly work as well. They might also work with local businesses to get supplies and perhaps some labor donated to help them with the project. Just remember that with an Eagle project there is much paperwork the boy must do to complete his project and during the school year they are restricted to weekends and holidays. It will take time but it will be worth it as the boy and his troop have a vested interest in doing a good job. One thing to remember when doing a cemetary project where headstones are damaged is you have to consider the size, weight and condition of the stones if they need to be righted and how to do this safely. This sometimes requires heavy equipment which cannot be driven into any cemetary over the graves or it might cause damage or even injury. A business such as one that sells fancy expensive natural stone for use in homes for counters ect... might have the right equipment. I talked with the woman from the Ritchey Holiness Church, come to find out she and her husband are the owners of it. She said that she would be tickled pink to have the cem. cleaned up. She said that the cem. had been in her family for over 100 years. She said that she remembered riding her horse through the cem. as a child. She also said that she used to have some letters that were written before she was born. Where some of her family had wrote to other relatives talking about people in Ritchey coming and stealing headstones to use as steps to get into their houses. She said that she had never heard the name of the cem. But she said that we were welcome to visit the cem. anytime. I told her that I would probably contact her later if any question came up. She was a super nice lady. She said the cem. had some Mollers buried there. She told me there was some gates leading up to the cem. and that we could drive up there. If it's not to big my family and I might be willing to go over and mow it this summer and try to maintain it after it's cleaned up. Since I'm a house husband and home school our three children. It would be a good way to help teach my children some responseabilty. I'm glad that the land owner is wanting to see it cleaned up. She said that it used to be a nice looking cem. She said that even as a child that some of the stones were so old that they were hard to read. The woman's last name now is Cox. If it quits snowing I might try to get over there. Fred D. He stated that he would love to see the old cem. cleaned up. But the cem. doesn't belong to the church. He stated that he thought that it was on private property. He said the cem. was 10 ft. on the other side of the church's boundry line. He said that he hadn't heard any stories about the cem. He thinks that it is an old family cem. and he also thinks that there is only about 2 or 3 graves there. He said that he has been in there and that it needs cleaned up bad. He gave me a name of an elderly lady from his church that has lived in Ritchey all her life and said to call her because she could probably tell me the name of the cem. and maybe even know of some of the people buried there. Her line was busy so I'm gonna try her later. I bet it is an old family cem. usually the way that they name them is to find the oldest stone and whatever the name is like John Doe then it would be the Doe family cem. but maybe I can find obits. on the people buried there then we'll know the name of it.
