Hi Pat My mother was born in Alamosa, Colorado on a homestead in 1916, but her parents were from Carrollton, Missouri. Both the Gray side and the Wilson side arrived in Missouri around 1860 from Brown County, Ohio and Mason County, Kentucky. Both areas are just across the river from each other. They were in the Kentucky and Ohio area from 1790 on, some are still there. Any connection? Sue
I was given a letter with no date. The people want info about Jacob Andrew Varns, b. 8 Sep 1832 and d. 14 March 1904. On 26 April, 1855, he married Elizabeth Moshoube (I really can't read this name.) She died on 16 Apr. 1900. My father was Charles Edward Varns. I think my father was from Craig. My question is, "What nationality were Jacob & Elizabeth? I would like to know what country they came from." Signed Francis Boyle (Varns) Please send the info to: vlchas@midwest.net Velda Moore
How close is Ripley, Missouri to Carrollton? My Wilson side is from Carrollton and they are members of the Church of Christ. I would be very interested in the list for the Wilson Cemetery. Sue
The Wilson Cemetery in Ripley Co. Mo. is located about 6 miles from Doniphan on 160 West highway. It is on the right. The Wilson Church of Christ once stood next to it, but all that remains of the church is a big slab of concrete. There is a small sign posted at the front of the cemetery stating it is the Wilson Cemetery. The annual cemetery meeting and clean-up day is nearing. It is usually held the second Saturday of April. When I find the exact date and time, I will post it. B Smith
Thanks for the tip. I'll check those towns. Midori
Debbie and All, The below disclaimer is on their site. We see this type of thing all too often; people making money from other's work!!! Friends, I am forwarding this from another list that I am on the web site they are referring to is http://www.familydiscovery.com/ Debbie Walters ------------------- X-Message: #2 Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2001 22:24:03 -0800 From: Margie <margecam@pacbell.net> To: MOIRON-L@rootsweb.com Message-id: <00ad01c0ab86$34eba640$3090fea9@margecam> Subject: Charging to link to Free sites.. not fair Content-type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit I just became aware that your Discovery.com site is charging people 7.95 for link information to sites on many of the free genealogy sites, Including the sites I host at rootsweb. I take offense at this, as I work hard to make sure the information is free for everyone. You defeat that goal.. and did not even find any of this information on your own... I am sending a copy of my note (this note) to aol's abuse address. I feel it is not fair for you to do this. I am also posting a copy of this note to the lists I host at Rootsweb. Please remove any mention of sites at Rootsweb, GenWeb, etc.. unless provided at no charge. I pay for copies, I upload the information & don't charge for it.. Why should you collect for work others do? Marge Campbell Host for Iron County MO web page, Iron county mail lists, Hermes maillist, Wenstrom maillist. HILL-L@rootsweb.com I took a minute out of our volunteer typing time to check this site out. http://www.familydiscovery.com/ It is a fraudulent site because a membership gives you links to our free sites. You do not have to pay to get to any site in USGenWeb Right here, there is no charge to get to all the counties in USGenWeb. We are all hardworking volunteers to have genealogy information free for researchers. I have found links to our Macoupin civil war rosters, censuses, which we spent many hours of volunteer time now to have unknowing researchers pay a membership to click on a link to view our work. Macoupin County ILGenWeb volunteers have put over 1400 pages of free information and continuing to work to get more pages up. If any person finds our complete work in their membership, please notify me. Please pass this information onto any list. Let's try to keep these ripoffs from making their pile of money from our volunteer work. Please pass this onto any list you might be on. Hopefully, this site will be removed soon if not sooner. Kathleen, It seems you are the Mom to most of the list I am subscribe to. I was begining to wonder if you was Mom to ALL the lists on rootsweb.com. =o) Anyway, from what I have seen you are not doing a good job, you are doing a GREAT job. I know for sure I couldn't do it so keep up the great work and I'll cheer you on. I just signed up on this list this weekend to see if I can find out where my grandmother's sister was buried. The best I have on her is: Edna TATE born 5-2-1902 in MO, died 10-27-1903 in MO. My grandmother was born in Leforge, New Madrid County, MO. Father was Henry Newton TATE and mother was Alice (McRAY) TATE. So if anyone can help or give me some suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Once again, great job, Kathleen. Luebbering is located in or near the town of Lonedell. St. Clair would be the closest town to Luebbering next to Lonedell, (doubtful if they had paper). St. Clair did have a paper but do not know years of publication, seems it may have been St. Clair Chronicles. ----- Original Message ----- From: <JOETRANS@aol.com> To: <MO-CEMETERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 12, 2001 9:13 AM Subject: [MO-CEM] Obit Christine Straub, Luebbering, Franklin Co. Midori, It also could have been Union, MO, which is the county seat of Franklin Co. Lee L. Midora, Luebbering does not appear on my Missouri State Highway map, so I do not know what larger town it might have been located near. However, it probably would be Washington, St. Clair or Sullivan MO. I do not know what newspapers might have been published in 1904. You might try the Missouri Historical Society library in Columbia, Missouri. Lee L. Searching for the obit of Christine Straub who passed away in 1904 on a farm in the vicinity of Luebbering, Franklin Co, MO. Can SKS tell me the name of the newspaper the obit would have possibly appeared in.? Thanks, Midori

Kathleen, I'm sure our fellow members appreciate the fine job you do as our List Mom, and we thank you for all your time and work watching over us and guiding us in our researching. You help us keep our lists as great as they are!!!! jippikid@aol.com
Dear List Members, I belong to many mailing list besides the ones I am List Mom for. I had a real eye opener this weekend on several of them and it made me appreciate each of you more than you will ever know. I saw members putting each other down, demeaning one another, screaming at each other if one could scream via an e-mail. I saw new members leave because they were made to feel foolish only because they did not know the rules of the list. I feel blessed to be the List Mom of your list and I thank you with all of my heart for the manner in which you handle yourselves on it and for the way you treat each other. Because of each of you I am able to take care of as many lists and I do - and love each and every moment of it. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
