I live in a tiny town in Missouri. Kimmswick has about 94 people in it and we love it here. My family has been in Jefferson County, MO since 1804. Great place to live. Retta
Hi Carol, Thank you for your help. The family moved to Dunklin, MO around 1900. I don't know much about Dunklin, MO or the towns in Dunklin. A family member said the Burgess' were buried in Dunklin, MO. Thank you again, Georgia
THANK YOU
Mary, Do you know if the surname MAUPIN is any way an offshoot of the surname MAUGHMER or MACHMER? I have seen it many, many times listed in NW Missouri and that is where my family was located. Anyone interested in Callaway or Montgomery County, Missouri Cemeteries? Betty
This sounds very much like Ridings Cemetery in NE Randolph Co. MO. Vandals got in a few years ago and overturned many of the stones. The road used to go right by the cemetery, but was then moved and now you have to go down a lane to get to it. My husband's grandparents are buried there as well as some other relatives of his and he and his brothers seem to be the only ones interested in keeping the cemetery up. They did put a chain link fence around it (after the vandalism) and, as you say, it was quite expensive. My husband and his brothers take their mowers there several times each summer and keep the grass mowed themselves. I agree with your statement that more people who have family and friends buried there should get involved, but until they do, we will continue to do it ourselves. It's the least we can do for our ancestors. Luckily, it is not a huge cemetery, but each mowing requires all day. My husband has lost two of his brothers, so there are just three of them left to mow. When I don't have to work, I go along to do the trimming. There are many stones that need to be righted and perhaps reset with concrete, but my husband is the youngest of the three brothers and he is 73, so, without help, some things have to be left undone. If you need to comment, either positive or negative regarding what is going on with the list right now - please send them to me, personally at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net not to the entire list. I appreciate your support, but having the support message come across the list just encourages more and we are right back where we were - with Non-Missouri-Cemetery messages being posted. One more time -- Do not respond to a "Where Am I" Message. Let them pass. Just a we begin to get them stopped, we are beginning to have a second wave of Un-Missouri-Cemetery messages -- from those unhappy with the "Where Am I" messages. Let it Pass -- Please. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Shhhh. Please everyone - let it pass. Do not now begin to send messages agreeing with either me or other members regarding your unhappiness with the postings that have been happening. Let it pass, I will get them stopped. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
I have been quietly watching - thinking this too shall pass, but it seems to be continuing. The MO-Cemeteries list is for the discussion of Missouri Cemeteries, those buried in them, the care of the cemeteries, locating cemeteries, the care of cemeteries, etc. There is a MO-RollCall list for the posting of ones Missouri surnames. The postings of personal conversations, regarding where you live and what the weather there is not dis-allowed, but I do think the time has come to get back to the topic of this list - Missouri Cemeteries. The continuation of our present type of postings is causing many of members to unsubscribe. Our list is just to large for this type of postings to continue. I appreciate your support in this. I'm in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. We're leaving for Missouri soon and will be doing some look-ups in Cole and Cass Counties, so thanks about the chigger and tick warnings. Have lived in Florida for 45 years, but remember those pesky things - used to live in Franklin County.
