Thank > you, Marie This would be the Battle of Fort Davidson/Pilot Knob Because of the distance from Iron County to St.Louis or Springfield, Missouri, I would doubt that that many/any casualities were transported to either place. It has been many years since I was there, and I am not sure, but it seems that there was a burial area near the actual battle site. "In September 1864, a Confederate army under Maj. Gen. Sterling Price crossed into Missouri with the goal of capturing St. Louis. Union Brig. Gen. Thomas Ewing moved with reinforcements down the railroad to Ironton to retard Price's advance. On the morning of September 27, the Confederates attacked, driving the Federals back into their defenses anchored by Fort Davidson. In the late afternoon, Price unsuccessfully assaulted the fort repeatedly, suffering heavy casualties. Price, considering the possible time involved, had dismissed the possibility of mounting guns on the high ground to compel the fort to surrender or to shell the garrison into submission. During the night, the Federals evacuated the fort. Price had paid a high price in lives and gave Union forces the necessary time to concentrate and oppose his raid. Estimated Casualties: 1,684 total (US 184; CS 1,500) This is CLass B Major Battle It was also called the Battle of Pilot Knob " > > > > ==== MO-CEMETERIES Mailing List ==== > NOTICE: Posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political > announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, > etc. (in other words - spam) is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. > Consideration for exceptions, contact Kathleen Burnett > kathleenburnett@earthlink.net > To learn more about my world visit http://dwp.bigplanet.com/kburnett > Vist the Mo-Cemeteries Volunteer and Cemetery List > http://www.rootsweb.com/~mocemete/mocem.htm > > ============================== > Visit Ancestry.com for a FREE 14-Day Trial and enjoy access to the #1 > Source for Family History Online. 1. [MO-CEM] Col. William W. Compton and 2nd wife
    2. I am looking for the burial place of Col. William W. Compton and his 2nd wife Ruth C. (Ruby) Woods Dulaney Compton. In the 1850 and 1860 census they are living in Carroll county. After that they disappear. William was born 1797 in Virginia and Ruth (Ruby) was born about 1807 in Albemarle county, Virginia. They lived around little the area of Little Compton in Carrol county. They could feasibly be buried in Carroll, Chariton or Howard counties. William also served in the legislature in his later years. Would appreciate any help on this that could be given. Thank you in advance. Vicki cintrfire810@cs.com

    2. Bill, Thanks for responding. I'll try contacting the cemetery. Is Friedens an active cemetery? What is the difference between Friedens and Old Friedens? I found listings in Old Friedens for infant sons of August Uthe. Thanks again! Karen (Searching for: SCHMITZ, MUENKS, GNADT, STEINKE, UTHE, SCHIEDER, KEMPER, BUDDEMEYER)

    1. [MO-CEM] Re: Freidens Cem./Uthes/Schaeffer/Friederichs
    2. Karen, Your best bet would be to contact the cemetery are request data from their records. The Freidens Survey that is available, does not list any UTHE burials, nor does it list a LILLIAN SCHAEFFER. The survey does list a FRED SCHAEFER, born 1882, died 1909. There are no FRIEDERICHS listings, however there are 7 FREDERICK listings. This survey is a prime example of the failing of these cemetery listings. I have estimate that somewhere between 40 and 50 percent of those buried in any given cemetery do not have markers. These are very common Germanic surnames and there should be listings all over this cemetery. The office record is the final source. Bill Buchholz Does anyone have records for the Freidens Cemetery in St. Louis? Obituaries from the St. Louis Post Dispatch listed Freidens as the burial place for: August UTHE (1849-1939) Are there other Uthes listed? I'm trying to locate dates for his wife, Wilhelmina Louisa "Lizzie" Uthe. Lillian SCHAEFFER (1883-1975), daughter of August Uthe. Is there a listing for her husband, Fred Schaeffer? Adele FRIEDERICHS (1860-1930) I'm interested in any other listings for Friederichs. Thank you for your help. 1. [MO-CEM] Re: Mt.Olive Cem. Location
    2. Lauri, Mt. Olive Cemetery is located at 3906 Mt. Olive Rd. Lemay, MO 63125, this is in South St. Louis County. Mount Olive Cemetery was the name given to the Catholic burial ground belonging to St. Mary & Joseph Catholic Church in Carondelet. This old burial ground was opened in 1823 but by 1839 it was full and was then closed. In 1849 due to the Cholera Epidemic John Sigerson gave a part of his farm, just west of Carondelet to the city of Carondelet to use as a cemetery, the northern portion was dedicated for Protestants while the southern portion was dedicated for Catholic burials. Together they were referred to as the "Sigerson Cemetery."
