My ancestory must have had something to do with that list, because they hit eveyone of them. Thanks for that connection with reality Maureen in RI. Dave -B in OK.
This was sent to another list that I am subbed to. It is too funny, but oh so true. Maureen in RI This was sent to the Hudson County, NJ list by Ann Wicki. I thought you'd all get a kick out of it! (1) Thou shalt name your male children: James, John, Joseph, Josiah, Abel, Richard, Thomas, William (2) Thou shalt name your female children: Elizabeth, Mary, Martha, Maria, Sarah, Ida, Virginia, May, Ann (3) Thou shalt leave NO trace of your female children. (4) Thou shalt, after naming your children from the above lists, call them by strange nicknames such as: Ike, Eli, Polly, Dolly, and Sukey.---making them difficult to trace. (5) Thou shalt NOT use any middle names on any legal documents or census reports, and only where necessary, you may use only initials on legal documents. (6) Thou shalt learn to sign all documents illegibly so that your surname can be spelled, or misspelled, in various ways: Hicks, Hicks, Hix, Hixe, Hucks, Kicks (7) Thou shalt, after no more then 3 generations, make sure that all family records are lost, misplaced, burned in a fire, or buried so that NO future trace of them can be found. (8) Thou shalt propagate misleading legends, rumors and vague innuendo regarding your place of origin. (A) you may have come from : England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales....or Iran. (B) you may have American Indian ancestry of the______tribe. (C) You may have descended from one of three brothers that came over from_____. (9) Thou shalt leave NO cemetery records, or headstones with legible names. (10)Thou shalt leave NO family Bible with records of birth, marriages, or deaths. (11)Thou shalt ALWAYS flip thy name around. If born James Albert, thou must make all the rest of thy records in the names of Albert, AJ, JA, AL, Bert, Bart, or Alfred. (12)Thou must also flip thy parent's names when making reference to them, although "Unknown" or a blank line is an acceptable alternative. (13)Thou shalt name at least 5 generations of males, and dozens of their cousins with identical names in order to totally confuse researchers.
Those cemeteries in Pettis County that have been transcribed are located at interment.net. Go to US>MO>Pettis Co. The Sedalia and Smithton cemeteries are not included as yet. Cathy CWarbritton@cs.com

This is the kak worm, I think. Search for any files with 'kak' and delete. It will also change your registery. I am told that it's a harmless, prank-type virus and that the attachment is a porn web page -- but to be safe, don't open it, and if you've already tried, delete it from your inbox, then from your deleted items file, and if you find it in your Recycle Bin, delete it from that. Dear List Members, We all are fighting the virus that is running through the system now. Please know that I am spending hours and hours a day working with those on my lists who have this virus. When I find out they have it, the member is unsubscribed from the list until their computer is cleaned and then they are welcomed back with open arms. Just remember, I am behind the scenes working on it. If you get a posting with an attachement -- DO NOT OPEN IT -- unless you know 100 % who it is from and what it is and then run a scan on it before you open it. DO NOT OPEN ANY THING THAT COME WITH THE FOLLOWING: "Take a look to the attachment" I would also ask that you do not post to the list when you get a message with the virus. If you got it, and it came from a List Member, then most likely I got it and most members of the list got it and we are ALL DELETING IT. :) These viruses cannot be passed through Rootsweb via the lists, but they can be passed to you personally..so be careful and if you do not know and have a question - contact me personally KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net or join the Virus Discussion mailing list by sending the word subscribe to VIRUS-DISCUSSION-L-REQUEST@rootsweb.com I appreciate you and your support of me and forgive me for breaking my own rules by posting this virus message. :) Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Many Confederate Vets. were at the Confederate Old Soldiers Home at Higginsville, we too have someone buried there- There would not have been a Confederate Old Soldiers Home in 1864- which was the date in question as to a burial place. Below was taken from a website dealing with Higginsville. The Missouri State Archives maintains the Higginsville records now. THE CONFEDERATE CEMETERY. A graveyard where soldiers of the Confederate Home and their wives are buried. A few other Confederate Soldiers (such as Quantrill) are buried here as well. The Confederate Cemetery is adjacent to the Confederate Chapel In June 1893, the Confederate Home was formally dedicated Construction of its buildings had begun in 1891 on 365 acres located one mile north of Higginsville and purchased from Grove Young for $18,000The Home was to house those Confederate veterans who were Less fortunate The Chapel was built in 1892 with funds contributed by the ladies of Lafayette County. A hospital was built in 1895. Financing the Home became more and more difficult, until the State of Missouri took over its operation and property in 1897 ----- Original Message ----- From: "marilyn orr" <maagn23@hcis.net> To: <MO-CEMETERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, May 17, 2001 12:46 PM Subject: Re: [MO-CEM] confederate soldier's grave? > There is also a confederate soldiers cemetery in Hihhinsville, Lafayette Co, > MO. Thought I would pass this on to this list:-) Carol To: preble_co_oh-l@rootsweb.com Hi Listers, This is an unusual request, but here goes...I'm the Community Relations Manager at the Tri-County (Cincinnati) Barnes & Noble. One of my privileges is to stock the Civil War and Genealogy sections with books. The Civil War one is looking pretty good right now, but I need suggestions for titles for the genealogy section. Please email me privately <LKeller863@aol.com> with any titles you think would be good stock. Thanks bunches! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
