    3. Hi, I am likewise not from Missouri, but have had success locating Cemeteries and those resting there. Just got back from a recent Genealogy Quest in Missouri. Try to locate the County where the person of interest died or was buried. This is a good start.. Either by calling, Online, or snail mail depending on the services available, contact the local Historical Society or County Office. There are books of cemeteries for that County In these references are cemetery locations and listing of those buried. Persistence will prevail John ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, July 23, 2005 12:23 PM Subject: [MO-CEM] Re: Buchanan County Mo Cemetery list > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AN.2ADE/615.1 > > Message Board Post: > > Betty, > > I'm not from Missouri, but you may find some help here. It would also depend on the clerk who gets the request. Something like this may have been in newspapers, but without a closer date, newspaper archives could be difficult, as could trying to find the police department covering the area. Was the murder solved or unsolved? http://www.co.st-louis.mo.us/ You are pretty specific in that it happened in Missouri. Is it possible it happened in (East) Saint Louis, Illinois? She had just received a cemetery listing of readable markers in the cemetery. Laswell was the only name mentioned in your query. Orlena ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hi, If the lady is looking for Laswell in the Harris/Odneal Cemetery, here are the only ones there--at least the only ones with stones: John Laswell b. April 8, 1821 - d. Apr. 20, 1893, husband of Martha Martha Laswell (no birthdate) d. Sep. 9, 1932, wife of John John C. Laswell 1871 - 1952 I hope this is what the lady wants. I know nothing about this family. I looked in our latest phone book and found a Jimmie Laswell, whose address is Rt. 1, Mercer, MO 64661, and the phone number is 660-382-4284. I do not know this person. He may be the son of a Laswell couple, who lived in the Ravanna/Mercer area, and I believe both of them died in the last 10 years. I do not know where they are buried. Maybe this link will help locate which cemetery you were at. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mojasper/maps.htm The township maps may have a few mistakes, but they are to be appreciated anyway. Here's also the Jasper Co. MO Cemetery List from http://www.findagrave.com/ [FAG] http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=csr&CScnty=1445 It also has mistakes, for example Hornet Cemetery is in or near Hornet Mo. which is in Newton Co. MO. Hopefully, that will be corrected someday. It can be very difficult to determine what counties some cemeteries are located in. Some cemeteries have been known by different names also. It does not help when Funeral Homes add to the confusion by using different spellings and locations for the same cemetery either. Since 911 mapping has come or is coming, so that every place has an address, why can't they give each cemetery an address. Zip Codes can cause people to think the cemetery is where it's not also. Sorry about that, but it's something that really annoys me. Thank you for sharing. Orlena

    1. Re: St. Louis, MO - Dayton TURNER
    2. St. Louis being a rather large old city has many cemeteries. Your best bet would be to obtain a Death Certificate, which will contain the place of burial. There is no one place to look up cemetery survey data or cemetery records. Even if by chance the cemetery were known a tombstone may not have been placed. It is estimated that only about 60% of the burials in any given cemetery have tombstones identifying where the person is buried. You might also contact the corner's office since he was murdered. Also, please sign your notes. Bill
