Billie Just keep looking and looking . I went to Davies county a few years ago looking for a Smith over there . Did not find him but will go back one of these days ( there are alot of Smiths over there to.) I have been so Lucky being on some of these Roots web list . Have found people to help me and have helped others. I have had people go out and take pictures in Ca. Ohio & Co. So much fun seeing those pictures that some one has taken for me. But there is the time you just leave that person set and go looking for some one else. Like tonight I opened up the Smith Stenson folder and find a page that is miss filed and it has the answer for something I am looking for and here you had it for months . Loretta
Well when all of you get your Smith's figured out maybe you can help me find mine. [smile] I have tried to find something on Isaac Smith before he married Dealy Caldwell in 1900 in Alton, MO. I keep coming up with nothing. He died before 1905. I was told he was buried in the Littles Cem in Ripley Co but could not find any stone that was marked for him. His son and Dealy are buried in the Bardly Cem. I will keep plodding along, someday I may find something to connect all the dots. Billie
Loretta, Who is Stacy? What do you mean, your Smith's did not use their name over and over?????? It is all so confusing! Herman, yeah, I can see your dilema. It's a rough road to hoe! No, if you had Alzheimer's, you wouldn't realize you forgot! :-) Donna
My mother was a Smith . Stacy and I tried to find some connection but it did not find anything in common. My Smith where from the Harrison County Mo. But there are a lot of Smith in that area. One thing about my Smiths they did not use the name over and over . I am searching my husbands side of the family and they are driving me crazy. There are 4 generations of Herman's and that is a direct line . Am afraid to see what the brothers and sisters named their kids. Also the naming of a daughter after the mother has made for great confusion too. Loretta
Minta that is ok . I am setting here with a magnifying glass trying to read some of these census that I printed . sure am glad that I wrote in red ink who was listed on this page. My SMITHS sure make me wonder about life way back then .. My grand mother Bertha Stenson (NY) , Married a Charles Smith who was from St, Louis . Do not know how he found her but find the Stenson where in Fl. in 1910 In 1920 they are living Robert Ernest Smith and his wife Ella (Tiffin) are with Charles and Berth and my father Robert . In 1930 I find the Smiths in Ca. but no Robert E & Ella . By then Charles & Bertha had 2 more children . By then my mother born in Mo was living in Ca. Wow I a going to put this folder away it is giving me a head ache What really bothers me is when you find some one else has your family in there tree and you e mail them and they do not answer . I just found my John Everly Smith in another Roots web tree. it had just been put in .. I wrote and never got a answer . Gee may be they never knew that this was his 2nd marriage I know some of his first family ( granddaughter did not know about it. ) Ore there are those who put the history out there and then moves and does not put up a new e mail address Well have to be crazy chasing all these people Loretta On Oct 12, 2005, at 7:23 PM, 2Skunks wrote: > Sorry Loretta, I meant to put your name on the last e-mail note from > me. Hi, Try the Soundex files at the State Archives in Jeff City. They list census records that list families. Paul
Hi, Bahner lies in SE Pettis County and there is a St. John's Cemetery there. If you go East on Rte V to Rte C, then follow Rte C. southeasterly 2.75 miles to will see a small Deppeler Cem on the South side of Rte C. From this cemetery go back west on Rte C for about 700 feet to a farm entrance in the south. At that point there are 2 signs announcing two cemteries that lie to the south on private land. The signs read, St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetary and St John's Catholic Cemetery 1848 - 1882 The Pyrmont Quad map shows the St. Paul's but not the St. John's. When I was there there was a storm brewing and I didn't take time to get permission to visit them and drove on. I did take a picture of the signs and the farm entrance. If you wish I could Email them to you directly. I took 6 pictures of the Deppeler Cem and the St. John's in Bahner. Paul

Helen, You have GOT to be kidding me! I also have a double Smith situation. Jonathon Nickles Smith (PA) who married Mary Josephine Kneedy (IL) and they had a daughter, Ella Janetta Smith (Iowa). Ella Janetta married a man named Ernest Geraldine Bruce (Iowa) in which THEY had a daughter Mabel Bruce (Iowa) who married Luther Allen Smith (MO). This Luther's father, is the John W. Smith (OH) of which I was looking for mentioned below. Yes, it is crazy. Those Smith's make me crazy. Family lore has it the Mary Kneedy was disinherited by her Pennsylvania Dutch parents for running away with Jonathon Nickles Smith and so, yep - you guessed it, never saw their families again. And further, that John W. Smith must have a very shady background as he told his children some cockamamie story about how he came from Ireland as a little boy with his family after his father (name unknown) was murdered due to the father being a member of the Parliament (a supposed political killing). John W. Smith claimed they changed their last name TO Smith when they signed in on the boat. Now I realize that in Ireland the last name McGowan has often translated into the name Smith in the U.S.A. But census records say he was born in Ohio and both parents were born in "America". I'm like, OK - big deal and not helpful. John W. Smith's last child (out of 4-all born in Missouri) was born after they started keeping birth records and it also says John W. Smith was born in Ohio. So, I am going with Ohio. My grandmother, Mabel Bruce (who married John W's son Luther) could not remember John's mother's name but believed she had settled in Sedalia, MO. Seems there was a teenage murder by one of the Bruce boys but the extended families from Iowa refuse to talk about it. Have no idea what went wrong there.......just confusion all over the place. These families all cut each other off from communication...so true stories got passed along and they didn't even get together so grandkids could meet their grandparents. We do have quick and determined tempers - I'll say that. One time I went 10 years without talking to my parents. We're a pretty hot headed bunch and we claim the market on dysfunctional! Ernest Bruce and John W. both ran away from home in their teens so neither one of them had good father examples to learn from. Stubborn, stubborn, stubborn. I'd like to thank both of you ladies for listening to my story. Hope you can follow it alright. Nuts, nuts, nuts. How about Robert Smith that is my father and I think his grandfather was Robert Ernest Smith . Have hit a big brick wall in looking for them . My father I know where is buried at but Fl. does not have his birth as they just started recording the births in 1917 . Must have started after Feb in 1917 . Smith are so much fun and mine is a double Smith as my mother who was a ( MO ) Smith married a Smith forn in Fl. to a MO. Father and new york mother . Lots to look for Loretta On Oct 12, 2005, at 6:05 PM, Helen Rehm wrote: > Hi Minta. > > John W. Smith???? I think you made that name up!!! Hi Minta. John W. Smith???? I think you made that name up!!! Just kidding. I'll bet that would be a nightmare to look up a John Smith. But, you know what? You pay plenty for those death cert. so the least they can do is look for it. I really didn't need the one I sent for as I was lucky enough to find an obituary in a little newspaper in the town where this person lived. Take care. Helen, That same thing happened to me several years ago! That woman must still work there! I tried again and finally got the death certificate I was seeking! The hard part was finding John W. Smith, my great grandfather. There are soooo many Smiths that I think she just did not want to mess with it, like you said. Maybe you should try it again, and perhaps she will be in a better mood the next time. Minta J. Sue. I sent to Jefferson City for a death certificate for someone that died in 1920, and they said there wasn't one. So I called them and they told me that even though the Dr. was suppose to fill one out, some Doctor's still didn't do it. I was going to send in for it again, thinking whoever had looked the first time didn't want to mess with it, and the lady said I would just be wasting my money. Hope you find what you are looking for. What about a church or funeral home, if you know any of these details. I have gotten some good records from both places. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AN.2ADE/636.1.1 Message Board Post: Thank you, Jackie. I had a lookup done on the Fairview Cemetery/Clinton Twp/DoCo records for Robert M. McClanahand. They gave me his birthdate of May 4, 1816 and death date of April 6, 1901. The lookup person said there was no obit on file. I was just wondering what direction others had taken in trying to find the parentage of some who does not have a death certificate.
