    3. I went to Indiana Prairie Cemetery today in Franklin County. Most of it looked very well taken care of but there were several fenced in graves that were just filled with tree limbs and very overgrown. There are so many old graves there that you cannot read any more. There was a barb wire fence around the cemetery and I could see stones on the other side of the wire. There are new homes surrounding the cemetery. It's a shame people do not write down the information before it becomes unreadable. I was given the name of a person who knew the most about this cemetery, I am going to try and get in touch with them. I don't know if they would have any more records than what is on rootsweb but I would like to know. I have been looking for my relatives for a long time and they are probably in a cemetery like this somewhere in Franklin County, these graves are old and untended by family members. Can anyone go in the fenced in areas and clean them up? There are about 3 or 4 areas fenced in within the cemetery. Looks like no one has done this for quite some time and I would just like to see what they use to look like even if you cannot read the names. It looks like there are stones just laying anywhere (?) Kids probably did the re arranging. Kinda hard to know where they go unless we could find the records....... Jackie __________________________________ Yahoo! There are dozens of stones, sadly I did not record them. Paul

    3. I notice that someone has sent a map showing the location of this cemetery. If you have anyone that can read a topo map well, you may be in luck. My husband and I both dowse for graves. He also is trained in land surveying. We have discussed what you might try after reading the posts. Given that you have an approximate location of the cemetery, dowsing is not a bad idea. Using a map of the area (or the topo map I mentioned before) and some surveyor's flags or just some simple brightly colored rope, you can dowse for the graves and mark areas that you've dowsed or searched. Although it may take some time, it is possible. If it is a cemetery with several burials (preferably quite a few), that gives the dowser a better chance of finding the area. Individuals that 'hunt' for cemeteries on a regular basis are familiar with land areas that are most likely to have once been a cemetery. Usually, although not always, there is a hint that a cemetery was there. A small grouping of trees in an otherwise open field, an area that is clearer or has younger trees than the others in the area, these can tip off an experienced 'graveyard hunter'. Although searching an entire quarter section would be extremely time consuming and depending on the land area quite nerve wracking, it can be done. Patience, perseverance, careful planning and the willingness to make the attempt are key. Good luck and if you need any help with this, please contact me directly.

    3. What a wonderful kindness to do for so many people. Your work on the cemetery certainly paid off and I'm sure those who found family names/pictures on your website are very grateful to you and the crew who did all of the work. 3. Bless you Calvin!! I know what a task it can be to take on such a project. I visited my ggg grandparent's graves last year at the Linn-Bethel/Grant cemetery in Linn county, near Meadville, and found a heart breaking site. As it turns out a wonderful couple has taken on the task to clean this cemetery. I have not been back, since I live in Texas, but have heard it is much better. It takes special people to find the time in their busy schedules to commit to doing this. Thanks to all that are there to help those of us that can't be there to do the work. Grace Dallas, Texas

That is great how you were able to get a small group to work at the Kerlin cemetery for clean-up. :) Also nice to see the added pictures to your web site of Kerlin. Keep up the great work.
