    3. >From Mabel Phillips-- Most likely you have this, but I had a couple of other people [Ellen Howell & Jean Gordon] I sent it to & thought if there was anything new here, you might be interested. In case you didn't get it, here's the Tittsworth info I ran into. I posted it again (or copied it) because I couldn't recall who had asked about Jesse Galloway. Jesse Galloway, Civil War & Tittsworth Posted by: Mabel Phillips Date: February 23, 2001 I can't locate who it was who recently asked me about Civil War soldier Jesse Galloway - & the possibility that he was the man for whom Christian County's Galloway Township was named. I thought they might locate this message. I was looking up something on the Tittsworth family for another person and ran into this quote from a county history in Pottawattamie Co, Iowa which tells more about Jesse Galloway than I had found elsewhere. ******* Titsworth GenForum William G., William D. Tittsworth, AR Posted by: Mona Sarratt Knight Date: April 23, 2000 at 10:38:00 I have an 1891 Biography for William G. Tittsworth, taken from the Biographical History of Pottawattamie Co., Iowa, which goes on for five pages about his growing up, his exploits in the Civil War and the Missouri border wars, cattle ranching in Wyoming, and even a stint in the Circus! William G. Tittsworth was born Apr 9, 1847 in Franklin Co., Arkansas, son of WILLIAM D. TITTSWORTH who died when Wm. G. was but a very small child. William G. had siblings: A.D., William D., Mary, Marcessa, and Annie. The mother moved the family to Taney Co., Missouri, after the death of her husband, and she married there to James Clevenger. William G. had a brother named William D. (yes, two Williams in the same family). If this connects with your family and you want the bio, I'm happy to send it. Please contact me directly as I do not check this site frequently. ****** WILLIAM G. TITTSWORTH, AR, MO.WY,IA Posted by: Mona Knight Date: February 23, 1999 at 19:54:45 I'm not researching this name, but I do have an 1891 "Biographical History of Pottawattamie Co, Iowa" with a very long and extensive bio for WILLIAM G. TITTSWORTH (b. April 9, 1847, Franklin Co, Arkansas), son of William D Tittsworth, who died when William G. was a small boy. Apparently the name WILLIAM was prevelant in this family! William D. Tittsworth, before his death, fathered six children: A.D., WILLIAM D., MARY, WILLIAM G., MARCESSA, and ANNIE. The mother married again in Missouri to JAMES CLEVENGER (of Taney Co, MO). Young William G., not satisfied under his step-father, went to live with his grandmother May. William G. was raised in Missouri exposed to the uprisings in that day by the armed guerrillas who were loyal to the South. WILLIAM D. TITTSWORTH, the elder brother of WILLIAM G., was at a neighbor's place on Bear Creek when raiders (vks note--This was Alf Bolin who shot the young Tittsworth) found him, and being aware that his step-father had voted for Missouri to remain in the Union, shot down young William G.; who then fled to a neighbor's house through the brush. On May 2, 1861, young William D. Tittsworth joined the Home Guards and served under Capt Jesse Gallaway, who was shot down at the threshold of his own door holding his child. In 1863, William D. enlisted in Company B., 18th Missouri Volunteer Infantry and served until the close of the War. In 1868, William G. went to the Territory of Wyoming and became a trapper, hunter, and rancher, and for one season was even with the Yankee Robinson circus in Illinois and Iowa. July 24, 1872, he married JANE LAW, daughter of GEORGE LAW. Jane was born in Crofthead, Scotland, March 29, 1857, and was an able mistress of the ranch, shooting and defending the ranch during her husband's long absences. In 1880, Mr and Mrs Tittsworth moved to Pottawattamie Co, Iowa. They had five children: FLORENCE ELIZABETH (b. June 30, 1875), DAVID (b. Jan 15, 1877), WILLIAM D. (b. Nov 24, 1879), JOHN C. (b. Aug 23, 1882), and BERTHA B. (b. March 31, 1885). I hope this info is helpful to someone. Never know where you're gonna find something. I was unaware that Jesse Galloway had died in 1863. Anyone know the "rest of the story", as they say?
