    3. <<Head shaking>> Well, Good Morning...! Okay, Jerry, I realize that <BG> you took some time off, plus you weren't in the middle of my Overstreet/Schwyhart Et. Al. research...LOL But I'm related to Butte Co. CA. That's right, the whole darn county...just about. A lot of folks left and went to OK and CA in the first decade of the 20th century. Better land, better jobs, apparently it looks something like the Ozarks...for just as they did during the 19th century, a scant few went first, then within a few years, it seems half the counties emptied out. For instance, I know the 1920 Stone Co. Census seems to be a big census, but there's a bunch of folks who were in 1910 who aren't in 1920--and it's not just because of the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918-1919. So I'm only half-joking when I say that the CA Death Index (CADI) at Rootsweb showed me the connection between southern MO and CA...it was massive emigration. And as for both of you--Caudle (any version) and Maggard are both Common Melungeon Surnames. I keep thinking I'll go get that put on the WRV site, but it's available elsewhere as well. My dad's got my N. Brent Kennedy book (turnabout's fair play, I know), but I know both those names and quite a few other WRV family names are Melungeon. Just because the surname exists in the family doesn't mean they're Melungeon, Larry--it means there's a possibility. I personally would like to find some Uncommon Melungeon Surnames...I think Phenix might be one. Or Dimond. Have a great Halloween! Vonda
