I by chance just checked the 1860 census for Barry CO. and didn't find a listing for Moss. Sorry I couldn't help. I really appreciate it. I do know about the Thurmans that are on the rolls, but from the research that I and several others have done, they do not appear to be part of the Thurman clan that I have been researching. Do you happen to know if women on the Hester Roll were listed by their married name or maiden name? I am curious about the Margarets that are listed on that 1883 Roll. Not knowing what Margaret's maiden name was, I only have her married name from her first marriage, which had to have been Troy.......she had a 3 year old son with the surname of Troy, listed as a step-son of her then husband, James Moss, on the 1880 census of Barry County, Missouri. When I saw the middle name of Atoka (or Atoha) listed for Margaret's granddaughter, I immediately wondered if it was that long-sought for Indian connection that we had been looking for.
