    3. Thanks so much, Becky! I do not know if he was at Wilson's Creek. I do know he is buried at Old Boston Cemetery, Christian Co., MO. I will try to find out more. Thanks again! They have a great archive and may well be able to answer some of your questions if he did. If not Wilson's Creek, do you know if he was in combat anywhere? Where is he buried? > Forsyth is and was the county seat of Taney County. At the outbreak of the civil war Confederates seized Forsyth and they turned the court house into headquarters. On July 22, 1861 Brigadier General T. W. Sweeney and 1200 union troops marched on Forysth and a skimish ensued. The rebels were driven out. As soon as the Union troops left, the rebels moved back into forsyth. Three weeks latter the Union army was defeated at the Battle of Wilson Creek. The rebels remained in forysth unil April 10, 1982 when Major General Sam R. Curtis and the advanced guard of his Union Army arrived in town. After a short time Curtis and his troops left for Batesville Ark. The Rebels promptly return to Forsyth. Despite several skrimishes the courthouse remained intact until the sping of 1863. At that time, after the Prairie Grove battle the Union troops returned to Forsyth where they fortified the Court House. When they left on April 22, 1863 they burned the town including the court house ! > to keep it from falling into rebel hands again. > For many years after that there was great contention in the area between residents because of the number of Confederate veterns who returned to their homes in Taney County. > > I haven't seen the site you are looking for, but maybe some Taney County Civil War History might help you. I will also send you the history site from Springfield Library web page, that I believe may have some information on the Civil War Skrimish in downtown Springfield. > Good Luck > Becky Quinn > Springfield, MO > bquinn@dialnet.net > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Gerald Johnston > To: MO-AR-WRV-L@rootsweb.com > Sent: Tuesday, January 23, 2001 6:08 AM > Subject: [MO-AR-WRV] Civil War Information > > > Somewhere; in the not too distant past, yet I do not remember where, I found > a list of local Civil War soldiers that included my great-great-grandfather, > Thomas J.
